Stuck in Grimhold?

So, I think I'm stuck but I wanted to check before I reload a much older save. I'm in the maintenance underground section of grimhold, in a large chamber near the middle of the map with a bunch of poisonous lizards in cages and a chest in the upper left hand corner. I opened the chest and the lizards were released. No problem, killed them all, but when I went to leave, there was a gate over the entrance to the room and I can't get out. I've searched and searched for a solution but I'm stuck. Is this a bug or have I just not found the solution yet? Feel free to give me the spoiler if it exists- I'm pretty frustrated at this point. Thanks.

It annoyed me more the second time through, when I actually knew the answer. Suddenly, I couldn't find it. Crazy.

There's a lever in one of the cages. Look around a bit, you'll find it.
