Hiya, I just started a Ranger.
The first blacksmith you meet only has 300 something arrows. I used them all and now I have nowhere to get more that I know of. Is there some way to make them or am I just stuck with using melee wep?
Arrows?

Unfortunately, arrows are a perishable, limited resource.Skeezy727 wrote:Hiya, I just started a Ranger.

If you're early in the game, and you've only been to Aridell, you basically only have two options: 1) try to get to Bordertown for access to a second vendor; or 2) camp for up to 7 (game) days until the Aridell blacksmith restocks with new supplies. Of the two options, I'd advise the second one, even though it'll be a pain having to camp in ≤8 hours shifts for up to 7 (game) days.
But I think there are a couple of points worth mentioning about this circumstance:
1) Rangers and other bow using characters have to be judicious with their use of arrows as, once you run out, you may not have them for a while. And,
2) Any bow-using characters should probably go with a back-up melee skill at character creation just to be safe.
Good luck!

Re: Arrows?
ah, I see. I wasn't really sure if they re-stocked or not. I did take the long blade skill at my first lvl up due to lack of arrows. Thx for the help!

Re: Arrows?
Merchant refill regularly their stocks and when this happen those selling weapons will have new arrows to sell. I don't know exactly when merchant stock are refilled but it's relatively often. In the beginning the problem with arrows could come more from not have money to buy more arrows. I'm playing a ranger and at level 8 I still need put care to always have money back. I never used a close range weapons for fights. I pick sell skill at creation and this doesn't lowdown standard arrows price but selling items brings more money. It's significant with skill at 7 including +2 from a book, but that's perhaps not the best creation choice.

For a merchant to get new items to sell, you have to not talk with him (not asking him to show his inventory) for about three or four days. That worked fine for me.Palog wrote:Merchant refill regularly their stocks and when this happen those selling weapons will have new arrows to sell. Actually, it's just as IJBall mentioned... the vendors are all on a seven day timer, regardless of whether you speak to one. You probably just caught 'em at the right time.King_ov_Death wrote: For a merchant to get new items to sell, you have to not talk with him (not asking him to show his inventory) for about three or four days. I always buy things, then rest for three or four days and come back again, and they always have some new stuff to sell me.

If you walk overnight, or fight in a dungeon overnight without realizing it, or something, it may not seem a day's gone by when it has.King_ov_Death wrote:I always buy things, then rest for three or four days and come back again, and they always have some new stuff to sell me.

I rested, waking up regularly to avoid random encounters, and I counted how many days passed.
Hope I've been helpful!

Re: Arrows?
7 days, that long? Woo I didn't realized, is that sure for 100%?
There's different points that are specific to a ranger and that could contribute to avoid any shortage of arrows:
Side note/question: I was wondering why my ranger seems faster than my mage. Is this an illusion? A class difference? Or you can increase run speed through some attributes/skills?
There's different points that are specific to a ranger and that could contribute to avoid any shortage of arrows:
- With a ranger it's not a good option to hurry inside a dungeon right after the beginning because of the lack of light. So discover soon Bordertown is a point. With 2 safe sources of arrows you'll hardly be in shortage of arrows.
- Also for the same reason than dungeons, at beginning fighting during nights isn't that natural for a ranger so each night a ranger should rest and that use time for merchants stock refilling.
- Your ranger need to be efficient and not lost too many arrows through failed shots. For this reason the ranger should:
- Focus the skills and attributes of a ranger on having efficient bow fighting so you'll lost much less arrows.
- Avoid night and dungeon until he can cast predator sight.
- Also close fighting should be avoided at any price because point blank shot has a chance to hit a lot of decreased.
- To avoid close combat it's a little like mage except that try regroup enemies don't make sense so instead of circle it's more 'S' that will let you put range between enemies and the ranger. This won't work against fast enemies but there isn't many fast enemies.
