Gallifrey wrote:Deus Ex is a shooter/RPG hybrid. In terms of game mechanics it's an FPS, but it's got a good story, lots of character customisation and many options for how you want to advance through the game (eg you can play a sniper, a melee fighter, a sneaky hacker, a run-and-gunner, non-lethal, a combination of bits and pieces) and you're generally rewarded well for your choices (eg if you go for sneaky close combat you'll hear some amusing and interesting conversations).
The sequel (Invisible War) is more shooter than RPG, but not as bad as the press it recieved.

The setting is a good dystopian cyberpunk set-up.
Invisable war was done for the consoles first that why it was dumbed down same with bioshock, i liked deus ex and SS1/2 but was disapointed with invisable war and bioshock.
We getting quite a few oblivion clones which i cannot really get into,i like FPS but not the hybrids games that are not one or the other really.

Part of it is a conditioning to rush to get things to do things faster and faster. I like to be able to go through a game slowly and systematically taking in all the details, loaves of breads, lockpicks, bottles of wine, scraps of paper with notes on them in an unhurried way.

Now most games are designed to be played fast so that the designers can gloss over the details and produce something to sell at a very high price with very little concentrated work in them.

I like being able to finish a game, and just before I am finished go back and fill in all the details, maybe I now have the see invisible or magic map spell, so I can go back and find the hidden areas.

This is not done enough with the newer games that come out. They are more smash and grab visceral games designed for hyped up teenagers who don't get to go out enough and are very distracted.

This is one of the reasons I liked Spiderweb's Geneforge Series, and Evil Islands, because there was a lot of patience, strategy, and planning involved.

I may even buy UFO Extraterrestrials because it has that feeling of detailed planning, strategy, and tactics.

I am hoping Eschalon will do this.
I am Myt where's the cheese dip.
