Praise to a wonderful game.

Post by Hexhammer »

Hello. This is my first post here, i got enough of the lurking around finally. ;)

EB1 is pure awesomeness, heck i've been awake for ~30 hours now, thanks to this great game and totally devastatingly messed up sleeping pattern.

Firstly, thanks for all the hints and tips i've run into here, helped my playing a lot. I just started a new playthough with melee only fighter and doing just fine.

About the graphics engine, i love it. I like how it gives the good 'ol days feel to it. I'm impressed how the game is at same time modern and old looking, getting the good out of both, especially how the lighting is handled. And the animations, nice, clean and simple. Games these days are too much fancy graphic/effect etc. orientated anyway, so it's really refreshing to have something new, which is old at the same time. Exellent work and i see EB2 becoming even more awesome.

Slightly offtopic, but i wonder if EB2 will have some Finnish distributor selling it? I haven't been able to find any yet... I think i might have to order straight from Basilisk then. I really like to get a CD/DVD if possible, i'm old fashioned with that.

It's been a nice way here, reading/watching how things with Book 2 have been developing, knowing the absolute greatness of Book 1, my expectations are skyhigh and i'm sure there are no disappointments ahead.

BasiliskWrangler, huge, epic thank yous for wasting countless hours of my life with this masterpiece.

Ha, i was just waitin gfor your reply, Freeaxe. ;)

Actually i share plenty of your opinions about Eschalon as well CRPG's in general too. Thanks for your char build tips btw.

I just started a old fashion true Barbarian just for fun of it. I chose cleaving weapons for his main offensive skill, i put 2 points on lt. armor and 1 point to shields. What do you think could be good secondary weaponskill? I'm gonna play this guy without any magic usage and maybe even without alchemy or at least without him mastering it. I thought that for a challenge i could try to keep him specialize with axe and take thrown weapons as a secondary skill and then use spears and maybe some tier 1 or two demon oik if he chooses to learn about alchemy. My character is kind of quite simple guy, not wesy wise or bright, but a tough nut to crack when it comes to good 'ol melee battle. ;)

Damn, this is so fun. Only trouble i have is to try to avoid savescumming all the time. I have this rule for it that when i find usual skeleton/corpse/old barrel, i take what comes and when completing hard quests or finding interestingly placed chest i take first thing to spawn if the chest is empty at first. And when in crypt/dungeon, cascets are a real treasure hunt for me. Just an way to me to keep some sort of an immersion an occasianally getting some better item to sell or use.

I think that talk about balancing loot in EB2 is very close of what i see as a working solution for at least my self. And the possibility for this new dificulty system. I bet i'll be playing on the hardcore setting most of the time. The temptation of savescumming is sometimes too much for me. ;)

THE thing about this game for me is in immersion and using my own imagination.. Like a simple battle when running on low HP's, being surrounded by thugs in the middle of the night, nowhere to run, i have to fight, will i survive? Wheew, the excitement and thrill of simplistic gameplay and complexity of the character/item/playstyle managing. The wery best part if good RPG. :D

He, i could go on rambling like this for hours.

Point in the whole game, the simplicity & complexity combined and almost limitless choise of actions and character managing make this piece of CRPG art with not many recent titles to compare to. For me at least, i haven't tried the spidersweb stuff yet. Some folks talked elsewhere that those games are worth some playing too..

:)

Somebody also mentioned it's possible to use custom pics for characters? How is it done? Just thought about little photoshopping and importing some new faces to use.

Put an image file in the png format named mypic.png in the Eschalon game folder... it needs to be 60x60 pixels... click on the custom pic button when generating a character and you're good to go. I believe you can change it out when you level up as well, so if you have a generic pic, you can swap it out.

Thanks, i was just thinking about trying the ironman challenge game with as immersive playing style as possible... real role playing, sleeping when character "feels" like it even if he doens't have to heal or regain mana etc. I find that kind of playing so much fun. And add it with some custom pic and as good/working stats as possible.

I repeat myself, don't mind the huge amount of typos, my Fingrish + sleep deprivation does all kind of crap to my hand/eye coordination. :P
