Food and starving

Regarding food, sure you may be able to sell things to buy more food in town but what if the merchant runs out of food to sell? Ive hit a point where Im pretty much starving all the time and heading towards a new town to get some more groceries. On my way I encountered two separate sole outlanders (bandits), NEITHER of which had food in their chest or person. Hello, they're CAMPING in the woods....

And yes I've killed all the rats in the first hours of the game. Maybe not everyone's experience with food but a little balancing in that regard would be nice IMHO.

(PS I havent encountered food/water spells yet, and I like the feature and don't want to turn it off)

I've added some food (in various barrels and cupboards) in the town of Eastwillow.

Unfortunately, this new content won't show up in your existing game because of the way previously visited maps are saved. You'll only see this new food if you start a new game.

In what game version this has been added? There's already some new version released?

I hope you added food to the house you start in especially considering that the story says you should be finding some there. I don't remember finding any food in the house when I woke up the first time.

Oh, and thank you so much for adding the food. I think it will really balance out the game at first before you know foraging or have spells. It's especially great for those of us who like to walk around a lot.

You start with an apple in the chest of drawers in the bedroom.

Starving and dehydration aren't too bad except for no more camping so you can't forage and repair equipment. I went through part of Hammerlorne that way.

Keep in mind that once you get to Everdale, you can sleep at the inn and get a meal to go with your stay... restoring both thirst and hunger.

You're hitting the right note here, me thinks. Fully exploring your surroundings is enjoying the game to the full.

I can't comment yet on the balance - my game is experiencing performance problems :cry: - but from the tiny steps I've been able to take I found hunger setting in quicker than I had expected.
The food requirement shouldn't be a constant issue that gets in the way of you being able to focus on your main quests. It should pop up as a problem here and there, not be a constant distraction.
But I'll repeat that I can't give a final opinion unless technical issues stop preventing me from playing this game.

Getting foraging reduces the rate of consumption of food and water.

I found it is possible to go on without ever eating. When hungry, you lose 1 HP every 30 rounds. But with decent Endurance you regenerate significantly faster. Also, hungry PC has some trouble with sleep, but the thing is, he CAN sleep and regenerate HP and mana, even if he wakes up from time to time with the message "you're totally hungry".

Things get worse when you're hungry AND thirsty, but the water is free, so this is not a problem after all.

So the suggestion is to make negative effects of starvation even more severe. For example, starvation could temporarily decrease player stats by some percentage.

I fully agree. I guess I was asking in for food, but that was in the assumption that the consequences of a lack of food would be substantial; losing the odd hitpoint doesn't seem serious enough to me.

I've finally had the chance to get stuck into this game, and I find it basically good, the way the food requirement is implemented. It's a good addition to the game, not a distraction. But a bit more food around and a more severe penalty for the player who doesn't stock up is desireable in my view.
