Turn back - your fate awaits elsewhere (spoiler?)

Post by jinnes »

Loving Book 2 so far!

Here's a weird thing. In Farrock Caves, level 1, I used a powder keg to blow up a cracked wall, near the border between the bandit area and the spider area. The blast revealed a passage that led north to a small room with stairs down. But when I try to take the stairs, it doesn't let me, giving me instead a message "There is nothing more in this direction. Turn back - your fate awaits elsewhere."

What's up with that? One of the things I love about Eschalon is the go-anywhere-anytime model of world building. Why the artificial and kinda OOC denial?

(And I do have the full version, not the demo...)

Hmm, fair enough -- so you are saying I would have had to use that powder keg anyway? I should come back later?

Design-wise, IMHO, I do think a more traditional barrier (a closed portcullis? a sparkly thingy?) would be preferable to the "don't go here" help text.

There are two places in the in the game world where you will get this specific message. The stairs in Farrock Caves are one of them. These two "go nowhere" places are connection points for a big add-on content adventure I have planned for later this summer.

The keg wasn't completely wasted. Look around there might be some things that you missed seeing. :)

ADD ON AREAS -- OH MY, DID YOU SAY EXPANSION PACKS? ... YES YOU DID, EXCELLENT IDEA. Every time I turn around here things are getting better and better!
