Questions about enchanting weapons [alchemy]

Post by okashii »

Hi everyone =] I'm really loving the game so I'm very happy to join the forums.

I have completed the game once with a mage
and now I want to try out a warrior..which of course is going to be much harder because..he is not a mage.. [yet  ].

My idea was to make myself a very powerfull sword, because I saw alchemy recepies for adding cold, fire, poison damage, but I need someone to clearify to me how it works exactly as far as game mechanics allow:

I already tested that I can add +1 damage at alchemy lvl 5 , I got very excited because I thought I can add more damage indefinetely as long as I can afford the reagents, but to my joy turned into magic dust [along with the sword] when I tried to add the same +1 damage again

So what are the maximum I can add? Is it +1 of every element [cold, fire etc.] or do I only get to choose one bonus enchantment for the weapon?
or is it +3 max at very high levels of alchemy?

Thanks in advance for any info =]

Some other notes that may be helpfull to others after my first playthrough:

You can make a decent amount of money my selling food you create via spell [Thank you Capt. Obvious]. At Divine magic 11 you can cast lvl6 Create food and get dry meat which is worth 15 so sells for 7gold easily. Just keep spamming the spell/rest untill you get like a 100 dry meat [if you can carry that much :P]
and there you go: 700gold + gold made from fish/bread/potatos.
Time consuming - yes, but it is a infinite gold mine if you are patient.

A very simple way of getting to the K..something..Port city, if you don't have the citizen papers or you are not insane to pay 2000gold,
is to buy a lvl 1 potion of invisibility [very cheap] and flip the gate switch yourself.

You can do either +1, +2 OR +3 to hit/damage on a weapon but not time after time. If you have a favorite weapon don't imbue it till you can put the max (+3) on it. A weapon can only have 3 types of things put on it. +to hit, + to damage and one of the other kinds, like poison OR fire Or...

And you have to have a high alchemy to do the higher stuff. The further into the game you get, the better weapons are so don't worry about it too much. If you find a 'named' weapon like as not it will already have something cast on it already, like the Cleaving weapon "Hex..?" has +2 magic on it, that means it does +2 magical damage by the way, not make any magic you do, better.

Invisiblity potion to get into the city is one way, another is to travel under the mountains and go in through the sewer entrance by the ocean. :)

Thanks for clearing that up for me Dragonlady =]

Do you also happen to know what bonuses can be applied to armor?
Can I create my own magic rings as well?

Right now all you can add to armor is +1, 2, or 3 armor rating.
You can't create magic rings in Book 2.

How high does your alchemy need to be to add +3 Harden Armor? I've got 13 and two +2 rings = 17 and it ain't happening yet.
