Stuck in Crius Vindica (potential spoilers)

Post by bkrueger »

Sorry if this question has already been asked, but I didn't find it, when searching for it.

I am stuck in the guild Crius Vindica as follows:

After finding the Crux of Fire I entered the guild to hand the crux to the guild leader.

When entering the guild I got a message that some monsters were teleported in with me and a gate has closed behind me. I killed the monsters and went further into the guild to hand out the crux and to advance the main quest.

But when I try to leave the guild I find that the gate is still closed and I see no way to open it.

First I believed that the monster thing happened because of state of the main quest, but now I suspect that it happened because I didn't bring the looking glass with me this time.

What can I do (I saved after defeating the monsters, so reloading is no option.)

You have to have the glass with you. It makes the light turn green and turns off traps, ie. door shutting. Your warned when you enter (if you read the sign). You have to have it every time you enter. Looks like you will have to go back to a previous save. :(

edit: oops, didn't see the last sentence about having saved game already. If you don't have another privious saves, I guess your screwed..I think, I'm not tech. :(

Thanks for the response.

When you get the quest to bring the Crux to the guild, it says something like:

You can use the looking glass to find the guild if you don't remember, where to find it.

I interpreted the last part of the sentence as not needing the looking glass, since I remembered where the guild was...
(I put the looking glass into a chest in an inn together with many other items since I had encumbrance problems for a while...)

Does anybody know if there are the any cheats (something like "noclip"), which I could use to get through the gate?

In fact I have an earlier save, but that is some time back (entering the dwarven mines).

I have to admit that the game is not exciting enough for me to repeat the complete mine, so I will probably quit playing it, when no better solution is possible.

Don't quit. :( Perhaps, BW can be asked nicely to fix the situation after he asks you to send your saved game to him. Wait a bit to see if any one else pops in for an answer. Like I said, I'm not computer literate about this kind of stuff.

There is a chest or two on the 'Guild map' you could store it in but you do have to have it every time you enter and exit. The sign and script when you enter where the tall light on a stand is reminds you of the dangers and light must be green.

use artmoney and change your location coordinates (press TAB to see you those digits). then act like it never happened.

according to the user atori:
coordinates are stored in integers with a size 4 bytes. but in memory they are actually lower by 8 for X and 18 for Y (maybe another digits for different maps).
not the best solution i know. but it sure beats restarting the game due to this small mistake.

Tried that and it worked! Thank you for the idea!

(The gate is still closed, even after I return with the looking glaas. So I will have to do some teleporting every time I want to enter the guild. But thats a minor issue, as long as the main quest isn't broken.

Thanks again to both of you, I will now continue the journey... 8)

Another Stuck in Crius Vindica

Post by jwrickert »

OK, I'm stuck too. I didn't notice when the door shut behind me and I saved right after I delivered the Crux. Problem is I'm on Mac: no ArtMoney for me. Is there any other way to hack the code and get myself out? I'm on the road with my laptop and my last usable save (Mines) is on a different computer.
Thanks,

"The Cheat" is a similar program for Mac. It's harder to get it to work, though, because OS X has more memory protections by default than Windows does. For the more recent releases of OS X, you will need enable root logins, log out of your regular user account and log in as root, then run Eschalon and The Cheat. For older versions of OS X, you could run a sudo command in terminal to turn off the protections (that no longer works).

A version of *n*x in which "sudo" doesn't work?! wtf. talk about breaking the admin cycle. the whole point of sudo is to grant limited rights without having to give out the root password. sigh.
er.
