What are the Most Useful Spells?

Post by Adronson »

I'm playing a magic user with both Elemental and Divine. What higher level spells should I look for or try to buy if they come up? I've heard talk that Abyssal Freeze is good. Ogre Strength might have occasional use for a magic user carting back the spoils of a dungeon. I've seen Portal -- expensive -- what does it do?

Portal allows you to create a link to any particular place in the game, so that by recasting you can return instantly to that location. You can have up to 6 locations (6 levels of the spell).

My first playthrough was with a mage with both Elemental & Divine to check out all the spells.

My suggestions:
- Fire Dart [better than Fleshboil because you can cast it on barrels/leavers]
- Divine Heal [because a healing spell is always good]
- Draw Water & Create Food [unless you are playing on very easy mode]
- Lore [to identify items]
- Lockmelt [to open 90% of doors and chests]
- Abyssal Freeze [Indeed a very good offensive spell, used it a lot myself]
If I remember more, I will edit the post.

Trapkill because you can't use firedart to trigger floor traps.
Cat's Eyes to amplify torch light in dungeons.
Predator Sight to make it easier to see monsters.
Reveal Map shows where monsters are before they appear on your screen.

Ice Lance is great for killing higher hit point monsters.
