Curse of the Prospector
I can't seem to complete this quest. After I killed the prospector, I came back to the mayor, but the mayor became hostile, so I couldn't talk to him to close this quest. Is this a bug, or did I do something wrong, like, perhaps, taking Wraithbiter, that caused him to be angry? Killing him didn't complete the quest either.

Taking Wraithbiter shouldn't make any difference.

<sigh> It must be a bug then. I guess I'll reload an old saved game and hope that I won't encounter this bug again.

I can't think of any reason for the Mayor to be hostile unless there's a chest near him which you looted before he disappeared (I don't remember if there's a chest near him, though)

Re: Curse of the Prospector
I think this happened to me one time during beta testing. I later figured out some of the bad undead had chased me to where the Mayor was and I used a spell that had damage outside of one skeleton. I figured the 'blast' area had touched the mayor without my noticing. Luckily, I had a save not too far back.silverkitty wrote:I can't think of any reason for the Mayor to be hostile unless there's a chest near him which you looted before he disappeared (I don't remember if there's a chest near him, though)

I just completed this quest and everything seemed to go okay. I did have trouble talking to the mayor at first because it said he was too busy to talk. After walking around I stumbled into an undead archer who I had turned and was constantly running away from me, which for some reason was messing up the mayor. Killing the lone skeleton did the trick though.

I think silverkitty's explanation is the most likely. Upon replaying, I did notice a chest. It is far enough from the Mayor that he's off the screen, but who knows. Maybe he was wandering close at the time I looted it. I didn't cast any spell that could affect him because I'm playing a Ranger, and shooting is all I do.

...er what happens if the skellies KILL the mayor before you get back? That's what has happened to me, the mayor is DEAD!!

Well I suppose that's a chance you take if you don't clear the undead around the mayor before you take on the prospector...corwin wrote:...er what happens if the skellies KILL the mayor before you get back? That's what has happened to me, the mayor is DEAD!!

Re: Curse of the Prospector
Not intending to bump an old thread, but I just encountered the same thing and it's almost certainly because there's a chest just to the southwest of his position that I looted and didn't notice the message. I'm playing a thief type character, so there couldn't have been any accidental collateral damage.
...now I have to decide between abandoning the quest and replaying everything I did today... serves me right for saving so much progress in the same slot.
