Amazing stuff...

Post by Lucifiel »

I'm kinda happy that someone recommended this title to me. :)

Just 2 questions about this game, though:

a) Do the NPCs sit around all day and have absolutely no involvement in the plot?

One reason why I couldn't get into old rpgs like Planescape torment and Baldur's gate 1 was that in order to allow the very ambitious plot to advance, most NPCs had to be really static. I was often amazed at how the characters did barely anything, even though their world was about to fall apart. I'd rather the plot be less ambitious so that at least, you've got a set of interesting characters.

Furthermore, if said book is a 3 minutes' walk away from your house, then why can't you find it yourself?

b) What is the writing like in Book 1? Does it flow and have a natural way with words or is it extremely lengthy, even though it would've been more interesting and vivid when summarised? I've always disliked it when characters spend a lot of time rambling. We might've had some good times in a party but there's little need for a life documentary, is there?

a) Sort of. They are obviously aware of what is going on around them (the main storyline) and they will fight when threatened, but they don't don't follow daily routines like NPCs in some RPGs. It's a lot of extra programming/animation/scripting just to give a badly "simulated appearance of life" to the NPCs. I mean, did Oblivion's Radiant AI really make the game any better? Having NPCs creepily wander around spouting automated responses is more robotic than lifelike.

b) I think the writing is good and to the point- descriptive but not overly wordy. I don't like rambling characters either.

a) Oohkay, well... as long as they're going to take some form of action, it's fine with me. ^^ It's just that sometimes, the NPCs in some games can be so blatantly ignorant or callous about their own fates, that you want to just roll your eyes.

b) That's great! :) It scares me sometimes, how some games are wordy enough to fill up a thesis or 2, with enough left over for a sequel. :p Yet, the dialogue and descriptions are bland and uninspiring. :( Maybe it's 'cos I've been spoilt by the old-school adventure games and okay, basically all games which had good and interesting storylines like Arcanum(though the story went downhill somewhere).

Btw, I'd a look at some of the screenshots? I'm beginning to like this game a lot. :) Now, I just need to save up enough to get this game. :)

Well, the demo is free and there's a couple hours worth of play in it, so please download it on the 19th and see what you think. You can always continue your game if you purchase the full version.

Aww... sure. :)

If I purchase this game, I'll probably get the DD version. =P It's too much of a hassle to ship it all the way to SEA.
