What do you like best about Book II?

Another Poll!?!?!?
*** Attention Guest Users ***

If you've played/are playing Book II, I would heartily recommend that you register and take the Book II Polls. The more voices heard means the more input that will be available when the time comes for Basilisk Games to embark on the next project, which obviously a lot of people hope is Book III. This is your chance to make a difference!! Let your voice be heard!!! Scream it from the rooftops!!! Okay, that last part might be pushing it a little... I don't recommend that you get on top of your roof... especially during inclement weather. 0_o

Cheese, definitely cheese. When faced with a difficult decision always pick the cheese.

What type of cheese? Stilton? Brie? Dockumer?

I like the atmosphere best, which is probably an adding up of music, graphics and lighting.
Also the turn-based-real-time thingy is absolutely excellent.
All of this was already in Book I, though, err... game mechanics are a bit better than in Book I, if you're looking for an answer specific for Book II.

Is this in fact a cheese shop?

The finest in the district, it is!

Well, it's certainly uncontaminated by cheese!

Why do you make these threads into polls and then fail to add relevant poll options?

Ok, if there had been an "other" option, I would have chosen that.

I still like the Cartography skill the best! It's such a clever skill that really resonates well with me as an explorer type of player. The only thing I miss about it is the ability (as a high level cartographer) to add my own notes on the maps. I would also like the game to tell me when adding more points is useless. I think I stopped at level 15 because I couldn't see any difference from 11 and on (I think, if I remember correctly).

I also like the game engine. It's so smooth and stable and, with more content, could support such a wide range of playing styles. What stops it right now is the lack of proper skills and content. There's just not enough stuff for each type of player. I mean, ONE unique weapon for every weapon type (except for swords that got two)? An overland map that consists of something like 20 little squares? If it had been 100 little squares, it would have been closer to a game. Just meadows with little houses on them (and hordes of sheep, perhaps), dark forests with not much in the except angry wolves and bears and an occasional hunter (and a cabin?), harbour villages, mountain villages, swamps complete with witches and fog, winding rivers where hermits live in seclusion. AND SO ON.

Not every place has to have a deeper meaning, just interesting space and mini adventures, interesting NPC's, tough encounters in hidden caves, all these little extras that makes good RPG's memorable.

I listed poll options based on easily recognizable and major components of the game that might represent the best areas for improvement. It's also possible that I might take the areas that recieved the fewest votes and expand them into other polls/questions to obtain further, more relevant information that Basilisk might be able to utilize in future content/games.

Gameplay. I thought it was solid, polished and well balanced, especially for an indie product. It's not particularly expansive, but that means you never feel like the mechanics are breaking dwon or you can cheese your way past everything. For me you play Eschalon to build a character and watch him get past challenges in the world. And of course the engine plays a big part here, very impressive for an indie product; it looks good, feels good and runs good.

The story, writing, characters, setting, etc. were, frankly, completely boring and generic, exacerbated by how verbose everyone was. Long dialogue is fine when you've got interesting things to say, but there isn't such a payoff in Book II (haven't played I). I mean, if complex detailed stories aren't the dev's forte or preference, why not go for a tongue-in-cheek satirical style? Right now you just get... well, four macguffins & aliens. Anyway, it wasn't that big of a drawback - it just doesn't do anything positive.

There was no option for 'The Credit Screen' so I chose gameplay instead ;-)

I really like the complexity of the character system, which makes it an interesting challenge to try to build the most effective character. I feel like not all builds are created equal, though - magic is pretty clearly more effective than the other options.

One more thing I REALLY like in Book II is the BIG set-pieces, the ships, the statue in front of Talushorn. These really lend a feeling of size to the places where they appear, and they're rendered beautifully.

I love the feats, although the habit of holding down the shift key and clicking to use the feat has made me occasionally shoot an innocent loot bag.

It didn't actually activate the feat, did it?
