advice on my ranger.
I have a level 7 ranger. As far as the main quest I just left the crius place.
I have dex of 31 and con 23, my end is 18 and my wis is 15. other stats are just what I got when I rolled them at start.
I have bow at 14, mercantile at 4 (hated spending 3 points but I wanted cheaper arrows) and I have div up to 7. bit of lock pick, bit of dodge.
I have bought forage of 5, sword of 1, and cart of 1. I am currently pretty much broke.
not sure if I should keep spending my money on upping my foraging and getting alchemy, or if I should start buying equipment. I am leaning towards equipment. I have a bow that does 4 base damage but I have not bought or found any good light armor (i have like light armor 2)..i do have a decent pair of leggings I found in crius.
I have just not found much in the way of loot. and alot of what I found I did not really use (heavy armor, crap amulets) .....I spent 1500 gp just on foraging. starting to think that was not worth it.
I read I should get predator sight with elementary magick...if so that is another couple of hundred of gold I will need to spend.
any suggestions?

Have you wandered much in the countryside? There are lots of little treasures just lying around. For instance, if you've seen Xed, there's a burned out church near him with some very nice stuff in it (just a few outlanders to get rid of first. Also, there are a couple chests across the river from your house. If you follow the shoreline down after crossing the dam, you'll find them (just be ready to kill a few bugs).

Or wander through the sewers of Port Kuudad and see what others have just left lying around. Build up your money supply and get some more training since foraging when you don't need the ingredients is a steady source of money and slows your food needs.

Re: advice on my ranger.
I decided to go the route of forage buying. I have it at 8. I then bought a ring of the boar (forage plus 2) and then found one! all I need to find now is the skill book for forage. I am getting some decent reagents to sell right now.
am buying up alchemy (for use later) and also buying up elemental (for predator sight...never hurts to have 8 pts in elemental without wasting a single skill point at character creation.
I will go check out the places you said. thanks.
I am liking this game. I think I do need to buy up sword to 8 as well, especially when I am resting to forage and get attacked.

You can get attacked when resting? I had thought that changed to book II because I finished the game once and never get attacked. Though I rested only rarely because mana was regenerating so fast.

Certain places are safer than others. Also the longer the rest, the greater the chance of getting woken up.110kaakeli wrote:You can get attacked when resting? I've been attacked camping right outside my own house.
There are a few spots, like inside Port Kuudad near the docks, where you will not get attacked no matter how long you sleep.

As I remember power levels for spells changes at odd numbered skills (1,3,5,7) - for casting a spell on 4th level you need 7 in elemental.kelticpete wrote:never hurts to have 8 pts in elemental

Re: advice on my ranger.
It is 12:45 and I needs to goto bed. I have saved up a few skill points (2?) and just levelled again. saved game.
I have very low light armor...maybe 4 pts and two of them book. but I am finding crap light armor. maybe because it is early?
port k, everdale, and eastwillow blacksmiths hardly sell any light armor and most of it has very low armor rating.
I want to take heavy BUT.....I have crap str....like 17. my dex is 33 and my con is like 25. I have int and wis of 15. end/speed 17ish....
I don't see how I can carry off the heavy armor....will better light armor show up?
I am just about to tackle the goliath beetles at level 11. wondering what to spend my points on....

Better light armor shows up in the shops once you head into Nor'land. You can get lucky since loot improves with higher levels.kelticpete wrote:I don't see how I can carry off the heavy armor....will better light armor show up?

Keep increasing bows into the 30's and the time between feats will drop quickly.

You know you can sleep safely in your bed, right?dundonalddub wrote:I have been attacked while camping INSIDE my own house!
Re: advice on my ranger.
With those points you have in foraging you might get an item every 2nd turn the hour glass makes when you sleep. Sell that item, forget alchemy. You can stop sleeping every 2nd hour glass turn so you won't get attacked by enemies. In Port Kuudad I think you can sleep as much as you want, without any encounters. On higher foraging levels you'll get an item almost every hour glass turn.

Higher concentration also increases the amount of weight you can carry. 10 lbs for every 5 Con. You don't need to increase your skill in Light Armor unless you're really concerned with move silently.kelticpete wrote:I have very low light armor...maybe 4 pts and two of them book. but I am finding crap light armor. maybe because it is early?

You'll find the best light armor in Nor'land or after that in Picaroon Isle. I saw a fabulous pair of fire resistant dragonskin boots in Dunore, but by the time I'd gathered the 20,000+ gold for them, the vendor's stock had changed.

With a Bow skill of 35 or 36 (not sure where the cutoff is) you get to use the Focus Feat every 5th shot (or use the feat, take 4 steps, use the feat).
