Eschalon: Book II or Book I

Post by taniawi »

Hi, would like to know how long does this game last for the average person. And is it replayable?

I believe I read the items are random. Do any of you play the game again when you finish it?

Thank you for your time.

Well, I played Book I about 9 or 10 times with various character builds. I'm on my second play of Book II right now, trying it with all of the settings turned on this time. There are lots of different ways to do things throughout the games, so if you're the type who enjoys seeing what other possibilities there are and you enjoy your first play-through, you may well also enjoy playing the games multiple times.

Of course it is replayable. Pick a different 'profession', different skills, turn off the randomness of chests and barrels. All kinds of things can be done. You may already know the ending (more than one by the way) but what will happen to your 'new' character you don't. Both books can be played over and over and most everyone here is doing so. Myself, counting the beta testing, have played at least 7 times all the way through and had fun doing everyone of them. It's one of the reasons I like Basilisk Games so much. I don't get bored with so many combinations to try.

As for random items, when you start a game you have the choice of being able to save, look, reload, check until you get an interesting item, OR just have that opportunity turned off and the only randomness is that that takes place at the very beginning when game puts things in every chest and barrel ONCE. That way, every game is slightly different from the last one.

Shrug, I like that way, some might not. :D

I beta tested so I've made it to the end 3 times and almost several more times. It depends how much you explore but you can count on about 30 or more hours if you do everything.

There are a variety of approaches to character design, so I'd say it is definitely replayable at least once with a significantly different approach. Depending on what styles of play you like, you may enjoy playing through the game several times.

Loot and vendor items are random, so you won't necessarily find the same items in each playthrough.

I feel compelled to replay Book II more than Book I because of the challenges. It may not mean a whole lot overall, but meeting certain challenges that are recognized at the end of the game is a big deal to me.
I listen,
I laugh,
I think for a while
As I sit in the dark
And smile.

I found book 2 more replayable though I plan on revisting 1.

the challenges in the game make replaying pretty fun.
