As I mentioned elsewhere, I didn't find the scroll until I got to Picaroon Isle, but even at that point it became very useful for saving sandal-leather and time popping around to all of the armor vendors to dump the piles of loot.

Portal's definitely great for saving time selling loot. Just adventure till you're encumbered, then set a portal, open your portal to Port Kuudad, sell your stuff, and portal back. Except on maps that don't allow portal, which make me sad.
I'm playing a ridiculous character right now with 27 mercantile that lets me sell for more than I pay to buy. While buying up skills and getting the best armor is helpful, I honestly think my favorite benefit is not having to collect loot. I pick up coins and any equipment better than what I'm wearing, but the rest I just leave for the next guy.

Portal's findable in Port Kuudad, though it was a good three or four trips to the magic shop there before I finally got it. Easily my favorite spell in Eschalon (books 1 or 2)!
It's also a lifesaver lootwise when you've exhausted all the available merchants for the week and want somewhere to stow swag until people can buy more (especially important for pure mage classes who probably don't have any points put into Strength). My favorite is the big ol' barricade of barrels in Eastern Sylphwood (the path, past the first Taurax Scout, towards the Rift Harpies). Kuudad does have a lot of nice caches hidden around, but it's nice to be able to portal in somewhere where you've got six containers immediately adjacent.

would be kinda cool if we could haul some barrels or chests about to pick our spot and make our own caches....

Well, if you have any Forage at all you can make your own containers. Just camp a few times and be careful to always leave something in each bag.
The Farrock Monument is really convenient for this as it's a quick-travel marker but there's nothing alive nearby (after you've killed everything, of course), so you can camp. Occasional random outlanders are a bonus.

true.. but toting about barrels/chest somehow seems more real - than storing pieces of large armor and weapons in that little old sack filled up by a eight reagents, but I get your point

I think I remember purchasing the portal spell in port Kuudad. However, I suppose the shops could possibly have random things with each individual game. They have random things per game per week, so, yes, it is sometimes available in Port Kuudad.

I'm having trouble figuring out how to cast portal. I mean, I seem to be able to cast it, but how do you jump back to that point you have "anchored"? Enlighten me, please. Thanks. (I'm loving this game by the way. Just found the invisibility spell!)

Just cast it at the same level, again. Instead of immediately setting the anchor (like it does the first time), you'll get a dialog where you can choose to open the existing anchor or set a new one.vang'mar wrote:I'm having trouble figuring out how to cast portal. Portal allows you to set up to six anchor points. You set an anchor point by casting the spell at one of the six possible levels. When you recast at that specific level, you will be given the option to reset the anchor point to your current location or to teleport to the previous set-point.
