I'll give some thoughts about how I think the game can be improved since BW seems to value feedback.
- Damage font from your characters head is too small to easily read. Maybe it looks better at the native res, but I play play at a higher res (scaled with ratio intact) and it's hard to read. I image most people also play this way.
- Shop keepers all seem to have the same stuff at the same times. Like they share the same seed. They all seem to say "this week we'll carry the sword book and rings of lore" All of them that sell that stuff almost every time. Seems beyond coincidence. Makes it supper annoying when you're using a fixed seed and you're trying to get a normal ring/spell to come up and you just camp for a week at a time. I wouldn't care if what item I wanted didn't come up if the shops at least appeared not to be colluding on the same item selection.
- Items in general are pretty uninspiring (I suggest the following)
- Allow boots to give +speed
- I only ever saw +str on belts with an armor of 1
- rings to extend spell duration
- rings to increase spell power
- Wisdom rings
- Attributes seem reasonable, but skills pertaining to defense are out of wack. I propose the following:
- light armor skill should increase your AC by 2% per level
- heavy armor skill should increase your AC by 3% per level
- Elemental/Divine skills should provide some other benefit beyond just being able to cast a spell. At skill level 10 have spells do 10% more dmg, at level 20, 10% increased duration (or something like that)
General changes I would make to help you sell copies to people that aren't hardcore oldschool fans (you are doing this to make money):
- Give everyone the cartography skill.
- Make resolutions selectable so people don't have to figure out how to enable fixed ratio scaling (easy for techies, enough of a PITA for most to not purchase). This would use your same tileset but add padding and other necessary stuff.
- Or another solution to 2 is just your art assets rendered in higher res and properly support common aspect ratios. I know how hard 2&3 are, but those are really what I think are holding your game back as a lot of people just get so turned off from the graphical stuff they don't give it a fair chance.
