Liking the game, some questions though...

Hi everyone, I am still playing the demo and am in the process of deciding to buy your game. I am usually an action/rpg and regular rpg game player, with games like diablo 2 and baldurs gate. But recently I found out about a game you prally have heard of named depths of peril. That game rocked. Din's curse did too. They were both indie games and I had never played one in life. Your game is turnbased/real time almost, but I like what you did with it.

What I came here to say was a few things that would be cool if they were implemented.

-Unless my version doesnt have running, the game definitely needs it. Without running it goes excrutiatingly slow. I can play the game how it is because I am a fan of Baldur's gate/icewind dale series. But nevertheless I find that that is a thing that bugs me.

-The classes. Does being a thief or ranger or whatever actually give you anything that you dont get without the class. So if i am a thief, which i am, do i get like backstab or something else because i picked each of the classes and i dont understand the difference you get. Hopefully someone can clarify that.

-Other than those two things, I am liking the game and I am sure that your 3rd game will rock as well!

What do you mean my excruciatingly slow? Like, the actual animations are slow? Or do you just object to the having-to-walk-around thing? (FWIW, there's no "running" feature, though there are 'quickwalk' locations you can use when you're above ground, and the Portal spell if you're a Mage.)

Edit - I'll also mention that you can use 'w' or the middle mouse button to turn on "walk lock" which will prevent you from having to actually hold down a button to walk. A lot of folks seem to miss that feature. And also, it certainly isn't an uncommon complaint about having to walk around, though there's also a large contingent who doesn't mind it. (It's never bothered me, personally, for instance.)

Eschalon is much more based on skills and abilities than it is by classes. Your starting Axiom will give you the benefits listed when you mouseover them, and a combination of of the Axiom and Class determine which Skill you automatically get one point in. Other than that, your character is determined entirely by what stats you choose to put into him. It would be entirely possible to pick "Magick User" and instead play him as a pure Fighter, for instance.

Once you get to 10 points in the various weapons skills, you do acquire special abilities called "Feats" for that weapon class - you'll see it appear in your character status area, and when it's active you can use it by doing shift-click instead of just clicking to attack. The higher your level in that weapon class, the more often the Feat will refresh.

There is no running. There is "auto-walk" by pressing the W, which means the character moves around following the direction of the cursor without your having to hold down the mouse button. If the game seems slow, however, you may want to check your graphics settings. Many people have found slowdowns vanish by switching the DX-7, DX-9 or OpenGL setting around.

The classes and axioms are used to give yourself an idea of your character in your mind as you're creating it. They set the given skill a character receives, but beyond that the game is completely open for you to develop characters any way you see fit.

So ok, the classes are mostly just a name and skill. That's cool, more diversity and replayability. Im gonna try the throwing weapons, I'm making my rogue use the knives.The only thing i want to learn to do eventually, is make a poison to put on throwing daggers. That'd be epic.

Imbuing with Poison is already possible in Book II...

And you can imbue a throwing dagger - but you have to do them one at a time, and I have to say I haven't been too impressed with the effectiveness of poison yet.
Still, it's doable.

Yeah, I was going to mention that IMO poison on weapons is very underpowered in Book 2, unfortunately.

Poison, even the spell, has been woefully underpowered going back to Book I - if you ever have the choice between Enkindled Weapon vs. Poison Cloud/Toxic Element, it's no contest as to which you should go with!

I have some ideas on how to change this in Book III, but I'm saving them for now...

A few more questions and some ideas....

1) When your thirst and hunger levels reach the bottom, what happens? Do you die?

2) When you put points into weapon-mastery piercing it says that dexterity and speed complement it. So does that mean they raise the damage or does weapon mastery do that. If they do raise the damage then that would be awesome. If not then,

3) Does mana have any effect or use on melee/ranged weapon characters because so far i havent used it for anything. I would say the only statistics good for a straight melee/stealth guy are dex, speed, endurace and some strength.

4) How do you get a place that you can quick travel to. I want to travel to a town by quick travel but i cant to find out how. Do i need a map or a high cartography skill?

Ideas-

1)I thought of an idea for a new skill called notice weakness. What it does is when you see an opponent you analyze the weak areas in their body. Once you have centered on them for 5 seconds or more your attacks are all exploited in an increase in damage and chance to hit for three rounds. This would mostly be used for thieves, rogues and assassins but it could also be used for rangers and fighters. This would be an awesome skill to have in the game as it would work on any weapon. It would have the attributes-perception and dexterity to modify it. That would also mean that you could have a mage who wants to have an edge in some fights making him like a rogue/mage which would be cool.

2) I thought of an idea for another class which might work. The bard. They already have skills down his alley. I know there already is a subclass for bard under thief but i figured what the hell. He could be a mix of a thief and a mage. His major skills would be something like-Lore to identify items. Cantrips to use as light spells (cantrips are usually what mages learn to use in the beginning before they learn the major spells. They are usually more beneficial though they have offensive spells as well They rely on concentration as an attribute which makes sense). They would also have a skill called speechcraft which relies on wisdom. This is extremely useful as it can detect whether someone is lying and make it so you can finesse your way past them with words. You get more experience when you solve things through logic/charisma, making the game more fun to play for those that want to roleplay. Besides that, maybe dual-wielding swords or dagger would be a good idea for either the expansion pack or for Book 3. Alright im done for now.

You start to take damage when your food/water drop to zero. I'm not sure, but I believe BW adjusted it in the 1.04 update so that the longer you go without food/water the higher the damage (otherwise, high endurance characters never actually have to eat or drink as they heal faster than starvation and dehydration damage them).

Yes, Speed and Dex increase the damage from Piercing weapons.

Don't forget Concentration. It ups your To Hit, helps with disarming traps, and increases your carrying capacity (slower than Str, but still helpful). If you're doing a lot of ranged attacks, it's a VERY good stat.

There are signs/pillars in places where you can quick travel. You just walk up next to them and click on them. In Eastwillow, there's one just between the blacksmith and magic shop, in Everdale across the path from the Inn, and in Port K right smack in the middle of town, as examples.

Thanks for the help guys. On another note, does mana have any use for warriors/rogues/rangers and anyone that does melee or ranged because from what it looks like, it seems that just the mages and priests use mana. Unless i'm wrong.

Mana is only used for spellcasting. Your Ranger/Rogue/Fighter can learn spellcasting assuming he/she has an Int or Wis above 15, but that would be the only time mana would matter for such a character.
