Evil place (spoiler alert)
Evil place (spoiler alert)
Hello there,
I have reached that "Destroy Crux Part2" quest and I am currently front of Taurax Citadel where is that last quick travel stone and the big stone-fella.
My problem is, I cant never beat those Taurax front of the citadel, they just kill me instantly with the sticks when I try to get even little close..
How I can get inside the Citadel, that is the point, right? Am I missing something?
Thanks
JHe

The Spearmasters can be quite tough. If you're very careful, you can lure them away one by one. Approach from the sides and make sure to Wait a turn or two before moving closer, with each step (with the spacebar). They're much easier to handle by themselves.
If you have any Elemental spellcasting ability, make sure to cast some Dense Nimbus. (Er, or was that the Book 1 spell? Don't remember at the moment - should really be sleeping rather than posting.) Chameleon or Invisibility would help too, of course, and those can be purchased as potions instead of cast as spells. If you have any effective ranged attacks, you'll definitely want to use those instead of getting closer. Finally, if you use shields, try to get your Shields skill up higher, which will help deflect more projectiles as well.
Good luck, it can be a tough battle!

Re: Evil place (spoiler alert)
The safest way as a pure fighter is to use an invisibility potion and walk past them.
The best way is to armor up over 70 base armor and use a stoneskin potion. Watch their to hit chance drop down to 1% as you slaughter them.

I just made up some invisibility potions and slipped through. I went in and out 3 times carrying loot away and it worked like a charm. Lots of ectoplasm needed.

Re: Evil place (spoiler alert)
A shield will really only help much if you've raised the skill a fair amount. Better in that situation is to switch into Parry mode as you slowly approach and try to drag one of the spearmasters off at a time to the back of the citadel where you can corner him and beat him to tenderized steak. Parry mode will add your weapon skill level to your armor rating, and as you likely have a pretty high weapon skill at that point, you can approach without getting hit for the most part. The game will remind you to switch back out of Parry mode (as it won't let you attack) when you get up close to one.JHe wrote:No spells, im pure figter!Potions might be useful, also Need to get shield. Had you spent a LOT of points on shields (as I did with my last character-level 42 in Shields + the amulet for 2 more), you could just waltz right in as 95% of all ranged attacks bounce off your shield (and monsters in corner-on-corner squares are considered at range so their attacks bounce, too, while you can hit them).

I'm surprised no one else has mentioned it, but switch to parry combat mode!
If you've got a decent attack skill, that'll give you enough defense boost to get up close. Then switch back to another combat style, and give 'em hell.

Ummmm. I did mention that. Right above your post.SpottedShroom wrote:I'm surprised no one else has mentioned it, but switch to parry combat mode!

With my last character I really made use of the various combat modes A LOT. It makes for interesting playing options. The option of different combat modes is one thing I'm REALLY REALLY happy about in Book II now that I've given them a real workout.

Re: Evil place (spoiler alert)
Hi again,
Im in this Citadel right now, with help of invisibility.
But know I have problem, im in second floor and I really dont understand where to go next. There is couple Taurax (in some sort of shootingrange) what I cant kill with my melee. Also I found gate wich I cant open but otherside of this gate is lever.
I dont figure it out what to do.
Thanks

Re: Evil place (spoiler alert)
You have to bite the bullet and walk down the range into the hail of javelins coming the other way.
Re: Evil place (spoiler alert)
I have been there but I cant get anywhere from there.. Its like there should be some door or something but its not there..
And I checked that range again. But there is nothing to go/do...

Re: Evil place (spoiler alert)
I threw a flask of Demon Oil III at the Taurax behind the fence. This also destroyed part of the fence, and let me move on. I suppose a powder keg would do the job as well, I believe there were a few of them around earlier.JHe wrote:And I checked that range again. But there is nothing to go/do...
If there's a lever behind a gate, there's always some lever elsewhere that can open this gate, is what I found. Looking around always did it for me.
Re: Evil place (spoiler alert)
Oh, I thought that fence cant be destroyed.. damn, i have no bow or anything to throw.. I Can put barrel there but that means I have to blow it with melee.. Need to figure out something.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Re: Evil place (spoiler alert)
Go back and check through all the barrels. Often you'll find something to throw in one of them. If you have over 150 health, you can survive melee-bashing a powder keg from the corner square, but then you'll be in trouble with the spearthrowers.

Also, take off your clothes first, or they'll be turned to dust.
