This game really rocks!

Post by smokemk3 »

Here is my review..

So.. i have been playing as fighter, with some divination spells...light armor.. and i was dead broke, finished 1/3rd or 1/th of the game.As a fighter i didnt found how to become wealthy but i really enjoyed playing as fighter..and in one quest i died.So i started new game as a mage.

Okay some summary:
Terrible: wolf dying sounds are way louder than other voices, and thats a very irritating since i have to lower the sounds to make it bearable...

The bad: there are only FEW portraits... Me being able to put my own portrait doesnt justify the lack of ingame portraits!
* Women character looks like a man! Thats terrible since i like playing with female characters.

The great things:
* Weather system, drink food system, torches, magic looks great, music is amazing :)
* Quests, secret places and riddles are well done, could be more :)

Important notices:
* As rpg player i still see my character feels as outsider in that world, if i play as a fighter, mage, rogue id like the to be a part of some guild which has some important tasks, just like the main quest(i suppose i "belong" to those guys whom i forgot completely)
* Maps could be bigger, or cities could be slightly bigger, but not as big as Kuudad.
* Maybe Eschalon book3 could have even harder rules for true rpg gamers like picking predefined class, means mage doesnt use any weapons, rogue can be good only with bows and daggers, fighter doesnt use magic or bows.Heavy armor for fighter only. But not concentrating on after game score points(which shouldnt be the point) but on ingame items or treasures at some point in game.
* I want eschalon book as a book :) Do you have any writers in staff who are writing it? :)

:) It annoys me too. Sounds like someone beating a puppy. I keep the sound low all the time.

There are 4 of each, though I would like to see some females with blond hair.

Have you played all the way through? You'll find a guild if you follow the 'glass' quest and another guild if you go looking to learn how to find traps and who did the assassination. :)

Escalon games are made by one person, no staff. A labor of love. :)

If that's your terrible then Book2 is the game of the year ;)
I didn't even noticed that actually.

I agree with you about the portraits - they are too few.
Women have different models then men - but the graphic isn't meant to be detailed, it's an "old school" ;)

Some of the riddles are actually too hard for me (like find what to put in the 4 chests to open the trap door, or find the combination to the chest).
Most of the quests have only one solution.
The maps are big and there are a lot of them - the problem imo is that there isn't enough interesting places on the maps, many of the maps are just too empty.
But the towns could have been much bigger.
I practically have maybe 2 places to shop mid-late game - as the other towns sell "cheap" things I no longer need.
Each class should be able to use any weapon, like in real life - there is no reason a mage cannot lift a sword and try to attack with it, yeah he would suck - but he can use it to some extent.

P.S
Every class starts poor at first till mid game.

Actually you can still do that in this game.....you can use ANY weapon u just suffer a penalty for not being proficient with the weapon....that makes complete sense to me. Want your mage not to suck soo much with that sword....get some sword training.

I know...I was replying to smokemk3 about his idea that each class could only use his own weapons.

I watching a nature program about Alaska and the wolves sound almost the same. Although volume could be lower.

This game was made by one man? Wow amazing, absolutely... heh actually the only bad thing is that wolf sound being too loud..
also there are few things that can be improved.Actually i cant think even 10reasons how this game could be improved...
Cant wait for eschalon book3. I wouldnt mind if the game would have same graphical engine and resolution.. :D
