Hi,
After 8 hours of playing this great game, I noticed that there was no more torch for sale. I tried in EastWillow, Everdale or Port Kuudad, i can't find any torch.
Same thing happened when i started a new game. Not a single vendor sells torch. At the beginning of the game, i think it's a little strange.
And if i remember my first play, i bought some torch to the first seller i saw.
So, here is my question : Is that a bug ?
Thanks.

I don't think the lack of torches in shops is a bug. They are sometimes available for sale, but not always. The assumption is that you are going to take them from the rooms you visit whenever you are running low.

The shops are replenishing stock every week, but it's probably best to be a bit economical with the torches you have - it's not needed to ever buy one, really.

Torches? We don't need no torches. We ain't got to show you no stinking torches!

I tend to use very few torches at all in the game, and there are plenty to be freely taken from the good and not-so-good folk of Eschalon.

Re: No more torch ? Bug ?
My advice to seche_linge would be to get a lantern (and decent Forage skill) - one you get those, you'll never need a torch again.
My general comment on this topic is that I agree with seche_linge that Book II is far too stingy with torch purchasing availability, esp. in comparison to Book I.
The same is also true of Empty Flasks in Book II. (And I'd argue it's also true of scrolls - there aren't enough scroll sellers in Book II, and in my opinion there should be a second scroll merchant in Port K...)
Anyway, I generally don't like it when game mechanics "force" you to play a certain way, and I generally don't like taking wall-torches (even from dungeons!) when I play (I consider it "stealing", and it often messes up the game-map illumination that BW planned for). But in some "random" merchant-inventory scenarios, you simply can't get enough torches without doing that (or sometimes even with "stealing" torches!). (You also don't start with "free" torches in the barrel outside your cabin in Eastwillow like you did in Book I which is another development I don't like...
)
Anyway, I liked the general merchant availability of goods in Book I as compared to Book II, and I hope Book III is more like Book I than Book II on this score...

I freely admit that I'm an oddball for not caring about torches, or the minimap, or so many other things that seem to drive people crazy.

Thanks all for your reply.
Problem solved : spells an lantern.
I was afraid it is a bug. But ok, it's just a roll thing.
Maybe it will be great in Eschalon book iii that npc who sell general supplies tell you that "they run out of torch or everything that is related to light as it's something enough important early in the game." Said in a rp way of course.
It's extra work but, it will be a plus for the immersion i thing. ^^
Or.. a more simple way.. speak about the roll system in the manual.

I've never had to buy a torch. You know that you can take them off of the walls right? And you can turn the in game brightness up if need be.
