Din's Curse

Post by llew silverhand »

So I finally had the opportunity to pick up Din's Curse this weekend from Impulse during their sale, and I have to say, I'm pleased as punch. My first town was destroyed, but so far I've saved 2 more. I started with Wizard, concentrating really just on Ice and Fire magic. So far I'm level 10 or so, I think.

The game is fast paced and enjoyable. I found Depths of Peril to be almost too much to worry about, competing with others to complete the quests, but Din's seems to be just the right balance for my tastes.

I know there are other posts on this game, and the developer, but I wanted to start a fresh thread :)

I'm enjoying it to, as I've said in other posts. I started out as a priest but got into too much trouble (died at least 10 times). Changed to a warrior (weaponmaster) and soon got the hang of it got several up to 15-19th levels when my eyes just couldn't dance over the screen fast enough to stay alive from the badies. Now I'm working on a 'Hybrid', a weapon master/thief. Having a blast with 'whirl' skill and being able to undo traps and pick lockets.

One thing that has saved my butt many times is that 'share' chest. When I get higher in levels and run across items that I don't need but know would help a 'newbie' character, I pop them into the chest for later use.

I haven't crowed about it yet over on the Din's Curse forum area, but managed to get a full 'set' of Caligo items. I'm rather proud of myself being able to tolerate a game that's not turn-based.

In case you've been holding off buying Din's Curse, there is a sale going on. Announced today:
Good news! Today we dropped the price of Din's Curse down to $19.99. We also released version 1.008 of the demo. Not only does the demo have the latest and greatest changes, we also increased the level limit to 6 so players can get a better feeling for the game.

It's great that they revamped the demo with the new content!

I am still working away with my Wizard - saved 4 villages, lost 1. I'm level 15 now, and have yet to really find any decent equipment upgrades for myself. I have 2 piece of a set that I can use, and a few others in shared storage (a dagger and a big hammer).

Still loving it, though I'm starting to die more. Perhaps I need to go do some easier levels to build up my money supply again, as I'm spending a lot on potions (though I did just discover the wonders of Pomegranate Juice and might just make the switch over to that). We'll see!

Still enjoying it, and am glad I picked it up when I did!

When I first started out I tried Priest. Couldn't stay alive for very long. Then switched to Warrior-weaponmaster. Love the 'whirling' skill!! Hit lots of enemy at one time. Especially great when you get mobbed. Still not getting very many 'good' items though I did get a couple of 'set' items now and then. Tried best I could to get armor that upped 'Find Magic Item' :) I'd get them up to level 15-19 and be 'saved' and ready to try for 'Champion' but got too hard for my old eyes to bounce around that much. Lately I've tried with a hybred Weaponmaster/Thief. LOVE that combo!!! Best of both worlds for hacking and undoing locks and traps and the skill to up 'find magic item, find money, etc.' goes up and up. (if you put points into that is.) I've been finding sets items and powerful weapons/armor out the wazoo! I have complete set of Ciglio's, need only one item for Tover's and Brenna's. Have gotten them up to level 19 before stopping and starting up again. With currant character I may be able to go higher. She hasn't gotten killed yet..knock on wood! And she's at Level 14.

Oh, all those characters I've played I always put best items when done with them into the 'share' chest and next character gets a boost up when first starting!

I managed to find a money vault and treasure room, and found a few pieces of jewelry to up my defenses/stats a little. With my Wizard, I love my fire AOE spell - it's a gigantic whirling red flame of destruction - of course, I've brought the ceiling down on my head a few times.

I am looking forward to trying some combos, but I intend to go as far as I can with my Wizard first!

I really like Din's Curse too. I currently have a level 52 Warriror, and she's a blast to play. I think it's great how the dungeons take on a life of their own. I once walked into a room where there were some zombies fighting another monster (don't remember what it was, we'll call it a wookie). Anyway, the zombies killed the wookie, which then disappeared into the ground. The wookie then popped out of the ground as a Zombie Wookie. Stuff like that is a lot of fun.

Ha! Yeah I am amused by that too unless they are Leprechans (sp?)! :)
I think I've killed them off before they steal my money and while picking up the coins they dropped *WHAM!* the undead form steals from me from behind. Grrrr... :D

..and I HATE it when they laugh and "ha! I gots yer gold!" while they try to run away. :x

It's fun but right now I'm not too happy with it. Yesterday I managed to get my character to 16th level without being killed once. THEN I had a quest to kill a 'mob' of boss bad guys. Got 5 of the 6. Then got killed 9 times trying to kill the last one. I was down for the count (9th) and do you want to resurrect sign just started to come on screen. In the background there was a small cave-in and rocks killed off the baddie! At least I got credit for it! :) Then had to travel back down to loot the body and all the soulstones I'd left behind.

Haha! I've earned my freedom! The question is, should I keep fighting? Or start a fresh character? I imagine I should be able to keep going, given I'm still *maybe* level 20.

With my blood pressure and other stuff, I can't take learning about the newer monsters and rapid fire fighting after 20th level. When I earn my freedom I start over making sure I put lots of good loot and food into the 'share' box. :) Which is how I discovered doing a Hybrid Weapon Master/Thief combo great to work with. :D

Din's is very fun, really like the dynamic nature of...well...pretty much everything.

Anyone pick up the expansion yet?

I picked it up, enjoying it very much so far. Definitely worth the money. New class, and the towns/dungeons have more challenges!
