For the folks yearning for respawns...

Post by Jumping Jack »

So... I think I might have discovered something. Try this y'all(or skip to the end of post for explanation):

-Load up the savegame of your baddest bad dude of them all who's about to fight the end boss or something. Preferably he's yet to enter the end boss castle so he can quickly go to Yoma Narrows (the empty map south of the starting map). Any save game will do really and the location doesn't matter that much either, but that's the best case scenario.
-Start up another session of Eschalon II. You now have two games running at the same time in two windows.
-In your 2nd game, create a new character.
-Exit the second session of Eschalon II.
-Back in your first game session with your badass mofo, exit north to Eastwillow or just quicktravel someplace.
-Have fun! :D

If this is a known feature/bug/whatever sorry for that, but I assumed not as it hasn't come up in a couple of topics I've seen discussing respawns and such.
Spoiler wrote:Basically what I think this does is it respawns EVERYTHING in ALL MAPS. You can go have a chat with Darus again(with predictable results) and pick up Ancient Dragon loot from the locations which have stuff that spawns according to character level.

Interesting, but this is technically a bug. (Though sometime developers will call them features if they do anything remotely desirable), and I haven't see anyone mention it before

You can duplicate some the effect this effect you describe by deleting maps out of the save game. If I had to guess, when you loaded that second instance and game it set an environmental variable to look into the second save game folder for maps, and generated maps based on the saves there. Of course with that folder being fresh, you get a new map every time you walk to a new area. It will probably correct itself the next time you load a save game.

Pretty much that, yeah. I guess starting a new game in a second session clears the Basilisk Games\Book 2 Saved Games\tmp folder. From there one could manually target specific maps for respawning.

Yes, the other thing you can do is save the game, go into the saved game folder, and delete every map except the one your character is saved on. All will be renewed to their original state and you can kill everything all over again (and get new treasures).

Kill 'em all, let the sysadmin sort 'em out.

Some people have done this before, although usually only one map at a time. I would note that it can screw things up - obtaining multiples of keys broke the Fathamurk expansion, for example. If you try this, don't be surprised if you encounter odd and potentially broken behavior.

Things are unpredictable when you exploit. Be wary, young one.

Hey... but that's cheating!

Thanks, Jumping... I think I'll try it out.

...And if it's unpredictable, like Fudge & Shroom suggest... all the better. :D
Certainty: a character-driven, literary, turn-based mini-CRPG in which Vasek, legendary "Wandering Philosopher", seeks certainties in a cryptically insular, organic, critically layered city.
