How To: Create and enhance a Healer/Thief or Cleric

Post by Minsk »

Hi !

Im totally new to Eschalon II (only played the demo of part 1) and havent played any real RPG for a few years now (i played BG2 and IWD1 a bit).
Now, i see the character creation is as complex as in D&D games.
So it is important to start with a good build...

I like to play a combination of a Healer/Thief or maybe a ordinary Cleric.

What would be a good start (Attributes, Origin, Axiom and Skills) for a Healer/Thief ?
It should be a character with a strong focus on defensive skills.
He should heal and boost (stoneskin ect.) himselfe and be able to Move Silently and Pick Locks. His main weapon skill will be a dagger although he should focus on mage.
Is such a build unpractical or even unplayable ?

Can you suggest me a good starting build (Attributes, Origin, Axiom and Skills) and a small description on which skills and Attributes i should focus later ingame ?
That would be great.

If the above is something you would not advise then i will go with a Cleric.
A guy with Bludgeoning as main weapon skill.
I read somewhere in this forum that a good start for a cleric would be:
"20 str, 15 end and 5 skill points in bludgeoning"
But what else is important ?
How should i enhance such a character later ingame (what focus) ?

Anyway, the Healer/Thief sounds more interesting for me to play so this would be my favorite !

Thanks.

Any Healer needs a minimum 15 wisdom to use the lowest level spells. Otherwise maximize perception to increase your mana pool for spells. You want as high starting numbers for all your stats so how much to do you want to reroll.

What's more important is skill selection. A Healer wants to have divination magic at 5 to start and keep some skill points so you can raise that by 5 when you reach level 2.

A thief wants a weapon skill to start at 5 and raise it to 10 at level 2 to get a weapon feat. You don't need to start with any thief skills at the start but if you do then pick locks and skullduggery will help you get early experience. Read the weapon skill descriptions to see which stats will help with your primary weapon.
