Ok, My thoughts on the game. *****Spoilers*****

Post by Necromis »

Ok, just finished the game over the weekend. Was playing a straight mage with mercantile, light armour, elemental, and divination as my main skills, no weapon skills. Over all a great game, though I think the story does flow better and keep you more involved in the plot in Book I more so than Book II. Since in Book I the plot changed and evolved the farther along you went. I understand BW had major engine design issues that caused the plot points to be rather hastely completed. (One small niggle on that, though. If the whole 3 game plot line is something that you have had planned out from the beginning how difficult would it be to set up the NPCs and dialoge to flesh things out better in Book II, Tom?) The reason I say this is I felt I was always learning something more in Book I, and after finding the secret society in Book II that it was just go find this and kill that till the end and you learn more about the Orakur. That being said, I did love the whole mapped area, and the size and feel of Port K. Did I miss somthing in Port K that lead me to go after the Assasins, or is that just something you stumble across?

Going back to the Orakur synopsis that some feel they are aliens, I have to say I disagree, I don't think they are aliens. The reason I say this is for a couple of reasons. The expansion which gives us more insight into them and the journel clearly shows that the crystals have mystical powers and the golem is surely magical. Another thing that points towards magic over science are the lights in the archives in Port K, they are magic, not tech, and are the same as the ones used by the Orakur.

My last thoughts on why they are not ETs is the comments made by the captured one and a picture found. First he says the crystals powered their ship and that they came from the heavens and ether. Secondly, remember that picture showed a city in the clouds. This points back to this in conclusion, IMO, they did come from the sky, a floating city, the ship is mystical and powered by a magical crystal that helps it fly into the clouds. The only really bad plot hole this leaves if it is true, is why are they stuck? After all the Portal spell, and the portal magic they were learning in the expansion would surely go from the earth to the clouds, and as such they just needed to get back to the city and open a portal back here. I hope I am not too close to the mark on this part, though.

You did not find the Assassin? I have a feeling you did simply not open every door in the game!

No, I found them, I just didn't find any quest related to finding them. They are pretty easty to beat when there projectiles bounce right off.

There's one Assassin, he has a name - you're still making me doubt whether you've found him or not.
The quest is almost the first one you're getting. Darius gets shot, then you're being asked whether you want to hunt down his killer...

Ok, yeah, Zeblin I got, too. I am talking about the place that you portal all around to get to the lair. It has shadow assassins I belive in it that either shoot you with bows or throw shurikens at you. Ends up with a couple of chests. Not the find the killer plot/quest.

Ah, that's just a fun hidden cache to find. Not connected to any story elements. Rather like the groups of Outlanders you can run into all over the place.

Ah, those. Yeah, you're right, if we're talking about assassins they're easy to mix up. No, I've never found any background info about those guys... as our Kreador Freeaxe already said (crosspost).

I think that's Thomas. Good game mechanics, enough creativity, not always a story with everything.

Yeah, Tom does great on some of the more subtle things. That being said, what are some of your thoughts on my orakur speculations? Would love to hear from you too, BW.
