OK, Eschalon experts, I need your help!
I am presently playing through Book II with a "Monk" build (i.e. focusing on Unarmed Combat), with the extra handicap of playing with the "True Warrior" challenge (among 2-3 other "challenges").
Here's my problem - I can't attack "Ethereals" without a "Magick" bonus, yet I can't equip any Rings because of the "True Warrior" challenge. I tried attacking wearing the gloves with the +2 Thrown Weapons bonus on the off chance that would allow me to attack "Ethereals" with Unarmed Combat, but no such luck.
So now I seem to be out of ways to attack "Ethereals", which means I'm out of luck on finishing 'The Prospector Quest'.
It looks like my only chance may be to fall back on my Thrown Weapons skill, but I'm only Level 5 in that (Level 7 with the gloves), and I don't currently own any "Magick" enhanced Thrown Weapons anyway.
So, anyone got any ideas for me here? Is there anyway for me to attack The Prospector using Unarmed Combat without using Rings?! Or am I stuck trying to use Thrown Weapons?!...

Re: Need Help With The Prospector Quest!
well as you are required to have magical weapon to hit, and you can't wear rings/amulets, you are kinda stuck using thrown weapons. Unless you were to edit your save game and give those thrown weapons gloves a bonus to unarmed instead.

The other is to lure the Prospector to the Mayor, but I don't know who would win.

That would be a fun thing to try. The big problem would be not getting killed by the Prospector's buddies in the process.Randomizer wrote:The other is to lure the Prospector to the Mayor, but I don't know who would win.

Very clever!Painted Lady wrote:That would be a fun thing to try.Randomizer wrote:The other is to lure the Prospector to the Mayor, but I don't know who would win.
This actually works - I just successfully pulled it off!

(I did feel a little guilty about getting the quest's XPs when Mayor Theotus did all the work for me!

One interesting thing: Mayor Theotus actually uses a Fleshboil spell as his attack!! (And let me resist my usual urge to complain about Fleshboil spells working on Poltergeists, like The Prospector, and other undead...)
Anyway, this is very cool - Mayor Theotus is one of the few entities to use a "Magick" attack in either Book I or II, and he may be the only entity besides the player than I can ever recall using the Fleshboil spell as the mode of attack!!
One unexpected result: I found another bug here - sometimes the Fleshboil "poof/dust cloud" would appear in the grid-square where The Prospector just was rather that the grid-square The Prospector was actually in for that turn.
(I'm wondering if this bug is related to the bug where the Shadow Assassin's 'puff of smoke' appears over the player rather than where the Shadow Assassin last was when you kill a Shadow Assassin...)
That wasn't too much of a problem for my guy!Randomizer wrote:The big problem would be not getting killed by the Prospector's buddies in the process.

My bigger problem was the 23 lockpicks I wasted trying to get the Red Bell when I ended up getting the "Spooky Key" just a few turns later...

Anyway, thanks for the useful suggestion, folks!!

Congratulations!
I think the priest in Eastwillow does as well, but I'm not certain. I remember dragging rats to him one time when I was trying to play a game as a "pacifist".IJBall wrote:Anyway, this is very cool - Mayor Theotus is one of the few entities to use a "Magick" attack in either Book I or II, and he may be the only entity besides the player than I can ever recall using the Fleshboil spell as the mode of attack!!

I certainly remember you posting about that. and of course you got the XP points when father Tyrus - or whatever his name was - made a kill, which didn't help your 'Pacifist" challenge.Kreador Freeaxe wrote:I think the priest in Eastwillow does as well, but I'm not certain. I believe you said it was Flame Dart he used, but certainly a magic attack.
XP awarding is sometimes going a strange way in this game, that could perhaps be a point of attention for BasiliskWrangler for Book III.

The spell he casts looks and sounds like fleshboil.
