Thinking Cap and mana

Post by Adronson »

I have a magic user with 25 intelligence, 29 perception and mana 101. With a Thinking Cap (+2 int) intelligence goes to 27 but mana doesn't increase. Is this a bug? Or am I missing something here?

Great game, by the way. An absolute delight.

Stats that affect HP (Strength and Endurance) and MP (Intelligence/Wisdom and Perception) only make a difference during level-up; changes to the associated stats are not retroactively applied to levels previously gained. Additionally it would seem that multiples of 5 are important, so 26 - 29 are the same as 25; no additional MP/HP benefit is gained until 30.

See this thread for a little more (outdated) detail.

That old thread is interesting - it looks to me like the pluses quoted have been halved in the release version (i.e. for hp, end gives +1 per 5 levels, not +2 whilst str gives +1 per 10 levels, not +2). There seems to be something odd going on with rounding however based on my play experiences.

Another quick thing - as far as I can tell, you only get the bonuses for your base stat, i.e. pluses from items don't count for bonuses on level up.
