So, I just started Book 2 and . . .
I started Book 2, and although most people think Lore is a useless ability, I used it throughout book 1. I decided not to pick up lore at all but I did get the divinity skill, so I figured I'd get the lore spell as soon as I could. Well, I am exploring around and my character was too stupid to know what a wild potato was (among other things, like a small ruby) and I couldn't find anyone in the starting town who I could pay to identify items for me. Then I get a divination scroll that I can't identify, and I'm like "%^&*. So, when I ding level 3 I get lore rank 1 and the game trolled me hard. The scroll that I couldn't identify was a scroll of lore.

I laughed so hard, it was awesome. I got trolled hard.

Oh man - My brother who doesn't like Eschalon thought that was funny. (I don't know why he doesn't like it). That was pretty great. Despite being trolled by it, how are you liking the game?
Re: So, I just started Book 2 and . . .
I absolutely could not put Book 1 down till I beat it, and then the ending made me want to pick Book 2 up right away, which I did. This game is looking to be just as good if not better. Granted I haven't wandered much outside of the dwarf dam and the starting town (and the old man's house), but I will continue to explore and play through the game as I have time to do so. I definitely can't wait till I can get some more time in tomorrow. ^_^

Book 2 was the first book I played (not counting the demos), although Book 1 is the only one I have completed.
About the character's inability to identify basic items: not being able to identify potatoes is bad, but not being able to identify jagged stones is really stupid. "Hmm... this looks like a rock. But it definitely is not, because I know stones are smooth and this is not."

You should be able to pay any of the vendors in the first town to identify items for you by right-clicking (or Ctrl-click if you're using a Mac without a two-button mouse) the item in the sale window.
But I will say that is very funny. It was less funny when it happened to me.

Really funny! Yes, Lore has been rebalanced since Book I. In fact, I have never been able to identify every single item in Book II because I haven't been willing to spend the required points to get the skill high enough.
Also, you are really lucky that you just discovered Eschalon. A lot of us have been waiting two years for Book III

My favorite character is the guy who's too dumb to identify rocks, but so tough he doesn't need to eat or drink.
Or did BW fix it so that you'll eventually take enough damage from thirst/hunger to kill you even if you regenerate multiple HP per turn?

Maybe the game assumes the character is dumb enough to eat the rocks.

Yes... I can see it now. Eating a normal rock deals 50 damage, while eating a jagged rock deals 75. They both have a continual poison effect, until the character dies. Great addition to the game!
This is true.Painted Lady wrote:Also, you are really lucky that you just discovered Eschalon. A lot of us have been waiting two years for Book III

I never really did test that extensively, but I believe BW did make both Hunger/Thirst and Poison "progressive" with v1.05, so I believe that problem was basically "fixed".SpottedShroom wrote:My favorite character is the guy who's too dumb to identify rocks, but so tough he doesn't need to eat or drink.

I think Divination basically fixes the food and water issue, so. I would have played on hardcore and found out about this, but I spent most of book 1 spamming Divination spells. I figured I'd reduce my time to the end and just play it through on very easy.
Yeah yeah, roguelike, got it. Been there, done that.
(Just teasing!)

People say that elemental is the way to go for magick users. Technically yes, but divination is also very important. Magick users are fragile and taurax are more than capable of tearing through their hitpoints. When that happens it is good when you have Divine Heal, lvl 6. Also it never hurts to Leatherskin before any ranged opponents.

Imagine that holy day when BW posts Book III's list of new features to the forum.Vroqren wrote:Yes... I can see it now. Eating a normal rock deals 50 damage, while eating a jagged rock deals 75. They both have a continual poison effect, until the character dies. Great addition to the game!

It probably didn't help that my starting level 1 intelligence was 8 and I didn't put any points from the original 20 to buff it up. I have gotten it up a couple points since then, but now I'm focusing mainly on divination, pick locks, and other combat related abilities.

Hm, so that's how you do it? I figured the game would tell me somehow. I never thought to try right clicking in the sale window. Thanks! I never was able to figure it out in Book 1 or 2 till you posted this <3.

The point of having a massive Endurance and high HP regeneration rate isn't to avoid needing to eat and drink, but it is an amusing side effect. Also, you can detonate powder kegs with your fists and intentionally walk through portcullis traps.Knightofhopex wrote:I think Divination basically fixes the food and water issue
