I personaly love em(except for the 5th aparition)
I started playing with th 1st and I played all of them but I think the the 4th is the coolest. 2nd prize to the 3rd edition and 3rd prize to the 2nd edition

No prize for the stupid 5th... the destroyed the saga

I never got into the HoMM games. I think it was because by the time I checked them out, I had already played games from the Diciples and Age Of Wonders series, and HoMM was just more of the same.
So it didn't really grab my attention.
There are worlds out there where the sky is burning. And the sea's asleep and the rivers dream … People made of smoke and cities made of song … Somewhere there's danger, somewhere there's injustice, somewhere else the tea's getting cold!

Haven't bought it yet, but HoMM5 is widely reported to be an excellent addition to the series according to long-time series fans. In fact, V4 was the one that was widely panned for straying from the winning formula. Until I get V5, I've got to vote for V3.

It's been so long since I played! I've only played 1 & 2 on the Amiga3000 or was that Commodore500? Been a long time!!

I'd love finding a Mac version of the earlier ones.

Hi,

for sure the HOMM III series

actually I have all 1 to 5 (and the king's "anything")

version 4 is not really that bad, just get used to the very short walking distance per round and avoid
playing necro (zounds of vampires takes out the fun, be they on your side or the opponent's...),
but unbalanced necro could be seen already in HOMM 3,
thats why necro is normally banned in LAN partys here

why not to vote HOMM 5 ???
the latest add on is fine,
the duell mode is great on LAN parties (between HOMM III games)
only when playing random maps at "impossible" size,
with 7 computer opponents, the computer turn time is really ENDLESS
can play some time of EB1 in that time, on another PC of course... 8)

V is actually the only one I've played (as I know one of the writers, and he sent it to me). I found it a lot of fun, though insanely difficult in parts. I know that the game went through a lot of shuffle in the years between IV and V, because of changes in companies and such. I found it entertaining.
