How am I supposed to complete it?
Im on the Talushorn lvl 4 and I don't find a logical way of completing the game.
General Ghorr can't be fought in melee as he has 1000 health on wiki and no melee character can fight him with that much health. You won't last 10 rounds.
Is there another way of getting the crux without defeating him. I unlocked the portcullis and got the stuff in there but usually I die because I can't summon the portal.

Unfortunately there is no other way. The grind is very tedious, even with ranged character. Plasma Wand helps a little, but Ghorr is resistant to plasma damage.

If you have enough pick locks to do a level 10 door in a reasonable time you don't have to fight. But I doubt that.
Depending what you have with you:
1 - Use the plasma wand.
2 - Bow feat in power mode even if you only have it at 10 you still wear him down.
3 - Demon oil III to make a barrier to slow him down and do some damage. Overlap to do more.
4 - Haste potion to get an extra action.
5 - Avoid getting hit using potions of invisibility, nimbleness, and stone skin.
6 - Increase melee damage with potion of ogre strength and bludgeoning feat to weak foe's armor.
Don't forget to retreat to heal and reapply potions. Moving on a diagonal past fire pits to gain a slight lead.

Re: How am I supposed to complete it?
I think its impossible with my character. Of all the options you said, I have no choices. I don't have ranged, my regular chance of hitting him is 44% and even lower in power attack mode. His chance of hitting me is 99%. I have one invisibility potion but still can't work because i can't hit him.
I don't think this is possible for melee in general. Its too bad because the game was fun until now.

I've done it, but you need to minmax more. Enhancing your attack and defence with spell buffs can really help, as well as reinforcing your armor with some alchemy. 44% is really not enough at that point in the game. You should aim for getting yourself enough weapon skill to regain your weapon feat in only a few rounds, so you can parry until you regain it. It's a guaranteed hit after all.

Re: How am I supposed to complete it?
The main problem is that I am lvl 17 and the last save I have is outside the complex (talushorn). The problem is once your lvl 17 you dont (at least not to my knowledge) have many places to lvl. I ran through the graze lands and didn't kill many things. I can kill scouts easily, legionnaires are hard and have a tough time with spear masters. My sword skill is 15. What should be a goal to get to for a lvl 17?Morgan Terror wrote:I've done it, but you need to minmax more. Re: How am I supposed to complete it?
If you have any weapon feat, the fight is do-able. Hit him with the feat, run around in circles until it recharges. That is how I have defeated him every single game.

Re: How am I supposed to complete it?
For pure fighters i've frequently had it in the 40's. What have your been doing with the rest of the points?
Since you're using swords, you actually have it somewhat easy, since you can't be hit when attacking.

Re: How am I supposed to complete it?
I think im going to go back before the tower and min/max for 2 lvls. That way I will have a much better chance at it. I am going to get weapon skill swords to at least 21 if I can. Morgan, what is a reasonable lvl of skill for weapons if you are not a pure fighter? Is 21 around about it? Thanks.

To deathknight: To max out your Feat, I think your combat Skill needs to be up to about Level 33 or 34, IIRC.
Shields is pretty ridiculously over-powered in Book II, to the point where I think if you get your Shields up high enough, I'm not even sure Gen. Ghorr will be able to hit you a lot of the time!
Once you've maxed out your Combat Skill re: Feats (and, for going up against Gen. Ghorr, choosing something other than Swords - e.g. Bludgeoning or Unarmed - might be advised...), for Fighters I'd advise putting the left-over points into either Shields or Dodge (esp. the former).Morgan Terror wrote:For pure fighters i've frequently had it in the 40's. Re: How am I supposed to complete it?
Depends on what you support it with. A wizard will want 31 elemental skill to use it as their main weapon. A ranger wants archery, and their melee skill won't matter as much. Paladins want a mix of divination and melee, maybe. Basically, keep putting points on it until it does what you want.
I've never liked shields. Seems like a dodge skill that only activates after putting 11 skillpoints into it, which seems a waste. Unless you put craptons into it though, at which point it becomes your main defence. Even so, i think it's only 1% of deflection for each point over 10.

One other thing you can do the next time is carry kegs of black powder upstairs and leave them in the path of retreat to detonate for some damage to wear him down.
I haven't tried a fighter at that low a level in this hard an area.

Re: How am I supposed to complete it?
There are some other cheesy-ish options for defeating Ghorr. You can run and hide in the treasure room with the combination lock on the west side of the area. He's too big to pursue you. Along similar lines, if you happen to be carrying a ton of powder kegs, you could use those to trap him or restrict his movement as people commonly do with the Stone Golem in Fathamurk.

Re: How am I supposed to complete it?
I think that it's impossible to pick the lock. Because the lockpicking formula counts your chances from your skill and dexterity/concentration, then subtracts lock level*10. Any percentage minus 100 is 1% (the minimum).

Re: How am I supposed to complete it?
You can't use lock melt on a level 10 lock, but enough lock picking skill and the complementary stats will give you a small chance.
