ive just ended the game yesterday as a rogue. pure rogue.
i invested in piercing weapons, shields, light armor, lockpicks, skulld, spot hidden basically.
i found that every door, special treasure and really good stuff are accessible by everyone, it has a key somewhere.
i didnt get a single good item, weapon of anything that gave me some kind of advantage over someone that didnt have a high lockpick (i had 10 and like 40 dex).
i will probably play again as a mage now, but i really wanted to say that lockpick is a complete waste of skillpoints. u get some reagents, healing elixirs and some stuff that are easly buyable and abtainable in other ways... even craftable...
you guys should add a treasure chest with no key and unblastable that contained some really nice loot, maybe unique spell, unique armor, weapon, something that really paid off a high investment in lockpick.
thanks in advance.
only complain about rogue skills. trap disarming is fine, but again, u can always save, and try again until u resist the trap, or just eat it and heal.
rogue is def. not worth it.
[LockPick] not worth it....
Re: [LockPick] not worth it....
I must be missing some keys then, because I had to hold off on some stuff until I could train up my lockpicking skills. And in some cases I chose not to use the key to get experience from the lockpicking. (I wish they let you choose that if you have the key - I had to leave the keys where I found them, at least until I was done trying the locks.)
It's definitely worth taking lockpick up to 10, but I suggest using the trainer and a book for that. Beyond that you may have a good point.

Having enough Pick Locks and dexterity makes the deathbringer trap avoidable by opening the door without needing the key they drop. Otherwise I use it to open chests and extra XP.
Re: [LockPick] not worth it....
whats the point of avoiding the deathbringers if they give tons of xp? its not worth avoiding... its just better to kill them... thats the point.. theres nothing that makes wasting 10 skill points into lockpicking worth it in the entire game.Randomizer wrote:Having enough Pick Locks and dexterity makes the deathbringer trap avoidable by opening the door without needing the key they drop. But I LIKE that trap. One of my favorite Powder Keg places! Still, very true.Randomizer wrote:Having enough Pick Locks and dexterity makes the deathbringer trap avoidable by opening the door without needing the key they drop. Otherwise I use it to open chests and extra XP.
I needed Pick Locks to get into the last section of the Lair of the Emayu Witch. Was there another way in? Maybe I missed a key somewhere.
Re: [LockPick] not worth it....
amount of exp required to levelup lockpick to reasonable level never buyout, 99% of doors have key in single screen range (or closer).
Re: [LockPick] not worth it....
There were plenty of doors that could only be breached by punching or lockpicks, they just weren't part of the main plot. Think of all the towns and locked rooms in them!
Re: [LockPick] not worth it....
content of rooms cant offset exp waste on lockpicks.
if you want exp or money much more effective to camp at hostile areas and oneshot encounter mobs.

It's disappointing when you invest a lot of points and effort into a character that doesn't seem to pay off. I must admit that my builds are sometimes too generalist to be really effective in any one area so I often have to fall back on the cheesy old tactic of a couple of skill points, plus a ring, plus a few reloads of a save until it works.jpgsilva wrote: only complain about rogue skills. trap disarming is fine, but again, u can always save, and try again until u resist the trap, or just eat it and heal.

I'm trying to stick to a more focused character this time through. Not a rogue, but it will still be interesting to see if I can get through with less sleeping and healing and less reloading this time. I guess it's very hard to balance a game so well that all types can get a fair crack of the whip without making it too easy for others.
Re: [LockPick] not worth it....
Well, you can't if you play with a seed so I guess it's more useful then.jpgsilva wrote:only complain about rogue skills. trap disarming is fine, but again, u can always save, and try again until u resist the trap, or just eat it and heal.

I think it's a testament to the quality of the game that most things can be done with different builds.
Either way I'll usually choose my skill investments according to the concept of the character I'm going to play. The game doesn't really require a min-maxed character. That said I'll build one or two properly min-maxed ones when I've played through once or twice.
