Item Quality Fixed when First Visit Area?

I've been suspicious for a while - but when I entered what I'll call the "area of many choices" and opened a certain combat oriented chest to find just pine and copper junk... that clinched it.

Can anyone else confirm that item quality is being determined by your level when you first enter an area?

Because that just sucks. It actually punishes you for daring exploration... Ugh. :evil:

yes i also noticed something similar, but developer rejected by suspision about "radian AI skyrim style drops"

Sorry, you're both wrong- there is no treasure scaling. But in looking at this, I did discover a small problem:

No matter what level you are on, be it level 1 or level 20, the contents of those chests are always mid-grade items made of low-grade materials (copper, pine).

To clarify: the contents of those chests are fixed by named items, but when the game creates those items, the material should be randomized based on the object's base value, meaning fancy bows should consistently be made out of material better than Pine. However, it looks like the game is simply setting the material to the lowest possible value. This only happens when generating fixed named items.

That is the real problem. I do thank you for bringing this up and making me double-check it. I can get a fix in for the next version.

But again, nowhere in the code does the game ever look at your character's level to determine treasure value. For that matter, any fixed item (such as named weapons) exist from the very start of the game. If you can reach it with a level 1 character, you get to use it.

i hope loot generation is script based and modders will have chance to alter them globally by overwriting loottable object or some static script?

the swords at the blacksmith's forge in Omentor are all copper except for the named one
. I don't know if this is intentional or not, but I was expecting more variety.

The type is fixed, but I now suspect the material would be related to level.

But according to BW's comments above no. Which is different from how Eschalon Book 2 behaved.

radiant AI (loot based of character level) is extremely stupid thing, in book2 i got many items above my level by metagaming way around plot, with radiant AI this is not possible.

just remember skyrim - on high level everyone in daedric, ever random beggars on streets.
