Concentration

What exactly does concentration help... the game really doesn't make that very clear. so i'm not sure how much i really want to invest in it

Concentration affects being able to cast a spell when you are next to a monster. You have a chance of spell failure because you are distracted.

Actually it fulfills very much the same purpose as Luck in Fallout or Morrowind: An additional bonus added to all your skill checks.
