Well, RPGWatch has done it again, this time making a RPG of the Year poll for commercial games. Since Eschalon won the Indie RPG of the Year award, they put us in to see how we'd fair against the big boys.
As before, head over and throw your vote in for your most favorite RPG of the year...<cough>eschalon<cough>
honestly, I've played The Wicher Demo, which looked nice and was interesting, but I prefer the graphics and gameplay of Eschalon (I didn't even finished the Wicher Demo...). I found the combat system in Wicher quite boring.
I have The Witcher here and I am anxious to see what all the fuss is about. I played for about 20 minutes when I got it and really just can't see why any role-player would be excited about "timed mouse clicks" for combat combinations. That's a bit too "Soul Calibur" for my taste.
However, I am definitely not dogging it...if thousands of RPGers say it's good then I trust them. I am going to force myself to play for a few hours over Xmas and hopefully the enjoyment will sink in. Visually it looks cool, and I found Oblivion enjoyable just because of how wonderful the world looked (but I didn't get into the "role-playing" aspects of that game either).
Thom, stick with the witcher, the storey is top knotch and the atmosphere is so there. Yes the timed mouse clicks can be a pain in the ass, but when you see your guy totally laying waste and blood spraying it kinda feels good(I know that has nothing to do with roleplaying but it was cool) Its the choices you make that later come back and haunt you or help you that mak this game stand out.
Looks like the poll make have been hacked according to some of the comments below the poll. Hellgate went from practically no votes to 666 in just a few hours. Well anyways, thanks for all the Eschalon votes- it was cool being in 2nd place for a while!
