Basic Question: Putting Items In Things

I'm on the first level of Shadowmirk and I know I need to put items in the two chests, but every time i pick up the potions i want to put in there i can't figure out how to put them in there. It keeps just dropping them. I have a Mac, I dunno if this makes a difference. I seem to be missing something pretty basic... help please?

Open the chest so the 4x2 content display shows, and open your inventory as well, strongmansampson. Then you can transfer from one to the other.
