Um...how did you do this?
I've looked in the game directory, and there's a file called gfx.pak that might have something to do with the graphics. It has thus far resisted my efforts to open it, so I'm stumped. I would love to put a custom portrait in the game, perhaps make my character female as well.
This game rules. A nice, simple old-school RPG. You just don't see games like this anymore. It is so sad that this genre has disappeared...until Eschalon came along that is! What a great game. Please don't make too many drastic changes to the game for Book II guys...stick with your winning formula!
Love the game play. Love the intro music. Love how small (100 megs!) and quick the game is. I like how challenging it is. None of this 10,000 hp and mp like many other "RPG" games.
One of the things I like most about this game is the ability to save anywhere and return to exactly where you are suppose to be. I have played to many action rpg where if you save and reload you start back at the last city you passed through and all the monsters you killed before respawn. This can get tedious real fast.
If you have family members in college you cannot stay on the computer until you get to the next save point. Sometimes the distance between save points is long. If I am on my way to the next save point. I cannot tell my wife "Sorry, but your work will have to wait until I can save." And yes I have more than one computer, but the children in college use the other ones. So being able to save anywhere and return to the exact same spot with everything as it was gets two thumbs way up!
I am still very early on in the game. So far I agree with everything that has been posted. I would add that I love the sense of freedom in this game. Almost all new RPG's (Bioware's in particular) make me feel like I'm on rails. In Eschalon I can go in any direction, but I have just enough info from NPC's such that I don't feel lost.
