You have to use magic attacks: weapons don't affect them, sidartha.

Unless they're magically enhanced weapons (marked by blue border in the inventory)

...and even if you do have magics, you need to be choosey about what you use on them...

Strange! Doesn't fit with my experience. Elemental magic, at least fire and cold, doesn't work at all for me. Do you probably speak about devine magic here (I'm playing an atheist magic user)? Even more strange: the only way for me to kill a poltergeist is my quarterstaff + some defensive or other helper spells like stoneskin or a potion of haste. Of course I had to investigate some points into weapon skill and I'm using a strength and damage boosting amulet when fighting a poltergeist. Poltergeist so far are in fact the only monsters that are completely immune to my magic attacks! As micks said, my staff is magically anhanced via alchemy. Seems to do the trick. I'm still curious what magic attacks you're talking about...

I killed all my Poltergeists with compression. It's the only magic attack, in my experienced, that worked on every single creature. I never once had anything resist it, since it uses the air around the creature to damage it, rather than causing anything to happen directly to the target. It's also great in that it affects multiple targets if they're very close to one another.

Nice, my brand new spell! So new I even couldn't cast it once.
Do poltergeister appear in more than one places? If not then it's too late for that because then I already killed them all.
On a sidenote, killing ghosts with air-compression sounds pretty strange to me. What were the thoughts on that?

Yes, there are poltergeists eleswhere, Rubinstein - FWIW, out of Sonic Blast, Deep Freeze and Fireball, Fireball is the only one that works on them for me.

Another one, good to know! Never tried fireball on them since fire dart has no effect.
So my conclusion was they must be immune against the element of fire.

I killed the poltergeists with arrows (+1 damage) and my sword (+2 to hit/damage). The working word here is magic weapons. Didn't try spells other than being in the dark and using Predetors Sight and Cat's eye. :)
