Tunnels of Doom

Post by Kuttner Dowd »

Anybody remember/play this one? I had this on a Texas Instruments computer in the early 80's. You could have a party of up to 4 and could set how many floors to play. Each floor had a bunch of rooms filled with monsters, treasures, and the such. There were Mastermind-type puzzles that unlocked vaults.

Saved games were loaded via a cassette. I can remember a bunch of us sitting around a tape player listening to the chirps and whines of the cassette trying to load the info onto the computer... just praying that the saved games would load.

The game was surprisingly strategic. I'd love to somehow play this on my mac.

Yes! I remember Tunnels of Doom. It was on my friends TI computer, and I was allowed to take control of 2 characters while he had the other two. I think it was pretty much the first CRPG I ever saw.

Here's a link to a fansite:

I don't know if you can get MESS emulator to work on a Mac, but there's instructions on there about how to get it to work on a modern PC.

Thanks for passing on that fan link. Great stuff. Just seeing those screenshots brings back a lot of good memories.
