Bee cave, chest

Hi,
I am in the bee cave and there is the chest with the slider. How do we figure out what number is the right one besides having to go through every number. I have to think there is a better way. Any suggestions or better yet, the answer. : )

Is that the one with a sign saying "S T E E L" next to it? If it is, that's your hint.

(Second hint would be that there's a simple way to assign a number value to each letter in the alphabet)

Ok, I've tried spelling it out, coming out with more than three numbers of course. So then I added all of them together, getting 25, but that doesnt' work either. So now I am baffled. Can't figure out what else to do with the numbers. Any suggestions plz?

Ohhh duh Gina! I broke it all down, like
19 - S = 10 + 2 (20 for t) =12 etc etc..Either I am thinking out of the box or you're thinking in it. Never thought to add each number individually. I was adding each number across instead of each number. If that makes sense.
