HOMM2

Heroes of Might and Magic 2.

I know it is turn based strategy but it was still fun and I am feeling nostalgic just thinking about it. *sings* breakin' the law, breakin' the law.

This is one of my favorite games. I still remember the first time I lost and I ended up dead in a hanging cage!

The Mac version doesn't work (save/load bug) right on anything past OS 8, so I have my old Power Mac 6100 running OS 8 so I can play this game (and a couple of other old ones that can't handle OS 9 or later, like Master of Orion 2).

Heroes 3 was cool because of all the ways you could play with a partner, and the indepth random map generator.

I have all the Heroes of Might and Magic games except the last one, which needs an Intel Mac, and wasn't written by the original creator, anyway. Still awfully disappointed that 3DO closed down, and that they therefore didn't release the Mac expansions for Heroes IV.

I started with King's Bounty. I played countless hours of Heroes 1 and Heroes 2. They were incredibly great strategy RPG games. I got so I had to play on impossible because I learned the game that well.

WOG is the best version (Heroes 3 1/2) in my humble opinion. I too have bought all of the Heroes 1 through 5 games, but in disgust, I threw out Heroes 4, box and all. I remember paying $50 for the game and another $20 for the strategy manual. I bought it based on the other games in the series, and man, did it stink up a storm -- real bad!

HOMM5 was released too soon. When I bought it, it would not work out of the box because of my graphics card. It was 4 weeks later when a patch was issued. Nival really messed things up in an effort to get it out early.

I still have heroes 2 loaded and ready to go, but haven't played it in a while.

Great series, at least up to 3. 3 + expansions was the best of the series, I think. Good, but not great, balance, and fun, polished gameplay. I loved the style of the graphics - cartoonish but beautifully drawn.

HoM&M IV wasn't so bad after I installed the patch that fixed a few bugs and made the AI more effective, and got used to having heroes fight individually. The stories were fun, and the graphics and music were nice. I wish I had been able to get the expansions for the Mac, though.

I played King's bounty, too, a lot!

I really enjoyed HoMM III - Unfortunately I never got my hands on the expansion pack so I haven't ever played with the random map maker.

I used to play Kings Bounty many many moons ago, like 12 years ago. Theres a remake coming out soon :)

I've got HoMM IV on my shelf but I've never been able to play it longer than 30 minutes for some reason.

Dear Friends,

Totally agree with you, HOMM 1, 2 and the expansions were great, HOMM3 was OK, not that good, but OK, After 3DO was gone the game became really awful. So much that I gave it away for a box of cookies... jejejeje and they were better than the game..

It is posible to find this games in abandonware sites, if anyone is interested.

HoMM is also one of my favorite game (together with Masters of Magic). I think HoMM III is the best of the series - mostly because of the random map generator, as stated in a previous post. You can basically skip HoMM IV. It's really disappointing. Now HoMM V caught me completely by surprise. It captures the spirit of previous versions with state of the art graphics - at least for turn-based strategy game standards. Also multiplayer mode as introduced by Hammers of Fate expansion is just great (simultanous multiplayer mode).

Have fun
