How do you make a character editor without knowing which byte means what in the character file?

Well, the trainer mentioned here is something that runs in-memory and changes live values on the running Eschalon program, so for that kind of thing you don't need to know anything about the savegame format.silverkitty wrote:How do you make a character editor without knowing which byte means what in the character file?

Goblin Hacker is a real nice-looking character editor for Book 1 which is a native Mac application. I know that various mac folks have been clamoring for an editor for book 2 as well, given that mine is apparently a massive struggle to get working on mac (if at all).Dragonlady wrote:Is this spam? This is quasi-hopeful news (I had wondered what had happened to ioquatix!), though it doesn't sound like it's happening anytime soon (which often ends up translating into "never!"). But at least you got in touch with him - thanks!jon_27 wrote:Today I talked with ioquatix about when Goblin Hacker II and he said "I'm busy doing my Masters in Computer Science for the next 4-5 months, after that I might have some time. Yeah, I'd love to try, I just don't have access to Mac hardware. If somebody wants to donate a MacBook to the cause, I wouldn't say no. :)IJBall wrote:Of course, if xolotl can figure out a painless way to get an installer kit together for the Mac for his editor, that would be really awesome too!!

So while it'd be perhaps more on-topic in the thread about my char editor (rather than this trainer thread), I think it's on-topic enough here.
