Doesn't take computer skills at all.. Just download a memory editor such as CE or Artmoney and read some tuts.. Or it takes skills if he's planning to write his own program but I doubt that..

But that kind of stuff is extremely lame in my opinion.

I don't know about the 'innards' of computers, including the Mac (which I have) but you can go the save-scum route. Everytime you find a chest or barrel. Quick save before looking into it. Then keep reloading until you have a very expensive item and save and sell it. Selling lots of heavy armour soon adds up. But this gets boring after a while and leaves the bad taste of cheating too much.

I have tried saving, looking in chests, and reloading; but it is as you say a bit slow ...

I might have som computer skills after all; what i was wondering was basically what program to use when eiditing, which file to open, and what to look for in that file.

As far as i can understand, neither Artmoney nor CE is available for mac.

I'm not sure exactly what you are looking for, but BBEdit and the free TextWrangler are both good for editing code without leaving all sorts of unwanted stuff in it. There are also some freeware html editors that might work. But you would have to do the editing yourself.

thanks for the help! i've tried both programs, and they seem to be great!

i'm still not sure which file to open though. i can find no reference to the amount of money in the the 'char'-file, for example. does anyone know what i'm doing wrong?

Try converting the money value to hexadecimal, then look for that value. It has been a while since I did much hex editing, but as I recall the values may be in reverse order.

Try making two saves with slightly different money amounts to confirm you have the correct value.

I think that's a PC thing, on a Mac it might still be little endian (though it's been many years since I studied Macs)

incidentally, the reason I said "in that case, no" is because hex editing is usually considered a "computer skill" :)

It is extremely likely the money value is located in the char file. The fun part is tracking down the location.

bob.d:

If you're just looking for money there is an easy way without editing the char file.

1. Find a chest, and open it.
2. Save your game.
3. Select the most expensive item in the chest. (sticks to your cursor)
4. Open load game screen, and choose game you just saved.
5. Game will ask if you want to drop item, choose NO.
6. When game loads you will have the item on your cursor, and in the chest.
7. Deposit item from your cursor in your inventory.
8. Save your game.
9. select item in chest. (sticks to cursor)
10. Repeat steps 4 thru 8, and you will have enough items to sell to start your own country. I do this for healing potions, but rings work well, they're very light.

I don't recommend this option until you've beaten the game FAIR AND SQUARE a couple times first, it really weakened it for me. :)

thanks for your tip, sirchet! this would be perfect for me!

i have one problem though; when i open a chest and click on an item in it, it immediatly jumps to my 'inventory' or what you call it. i doesn't stick to my cursor, that is.

do you know what i am doing wrong? have we got different versions of game maybe? or different platforms? (i use mac, and i think i have the most recent version)

bob.d,

My fault, you must first open your inventory, (click on the little foot locker, or hit the I key) then when you select the item it will stick to your curser.

btw...quicksave works well for this trick.
