Like Ultima VII?

Hands down my favorite of all RPGs I've played. I fell in love with the story! The Fellowship, the Guardian, the Batlin story arc between Ultima VII: The Black Gate, and Ultima VII, Part Two: Serpent Isle. I was wondering if Book 1, in spirit, is like Ultima VII?

It is certainly in the spirit of U7, but probably not quite as deep or epic. You gotta remember, Ultima 7 had 10+ years of Richard Garriott's experience behind it, 6 predecessors, and a very large team working on it. Basilisk Games is just a start-up indie studio and this was our first game ever. Hopefully we'll still be making games 10 years from now and we can better compare ourselves to the true epics of the genre!

We use the Ultima series (1-7), Might & Magic (mostly 3-5) and Wizardry (mostly 6-8) as our main source of inspiration in making Eschalon.
