Trapped door bug?

Post by The Noid »

When you click on a door that is trapped, but you have not discovered the trap, you get the dialog to pick the lock. If you then click No, you still set of the trap!
That seems to be a bug to me. Not picking the lock should not set of the trap.

Hmmm....I'll need to investigate. Do you have a "Spot HIdden" skill and what is it?

To clarify, you said: "When you click on a door that is trapped, but you have not discovered the trap, you get the dialog to pick the lock." That shouldn't happen...if you don't detect the trap, it should go off automatically. You should not get the option to Pick Lock in the first place.

It was the door in Blackwater, on the house next to the one with the corpse.
My spot hidden was 1.
My character did not detect any traps.
When clicking on the door I did get the message that the door was locked, with the question if I wanted to pick it.
After clicking no, the trap went off.

I'm afraid I can't go back, as I don't have a save of that moment. But I have noticed this before on other doors as well.

It's happened to me, as well, and I just thought it was the way the game worked. :)

The one that annoys me is that chest in the Citadel. Noid, when you get there, it would be good to see if you have the same problem I had. I detected the trap, attempted to disarm it, but the program then skipped to the Enter the Combination script, and the trap went off after I did. It never really attempted to disarm the trap on the chest.

Heh, I wonder why this wasn't caught earlier? During beta, this was definitely working correctly...but at some point after patching it must have broke. This type of condition is the basis for the Spot Hidden skill- to be warned of a trap before you set it off accidentally. Only when you know of the trap should you get the option to disarm it. :?

Well, for now we'll ensure that Book II doesn't have this flaw and then determine what needs to get fixed in Book I.

But you don't get the option to disarm it, you get the option to pick the lock and not picking the lock sets of the trap.

I find it also funny that the goblins in Vela can open a trapped door, without setting off the trap, but if you try to walk through the open doorway, you set it off. Or maybe if you try to close the door, I don't remember at the moment.

Well, presumably it's their trap and they know how to circumvent it. I don't know if that works for the traps on the ground, though--it's pretty easy to lure the bandits on the Western Salted Coast over their own trapped bridge. Boom. Boom.

They certainly aren't able to circumvent any of the many floor traps around Vela, either. It's a fun game getting them to wander onto the traps. Doors, however, behave differently. Monsters without keys have no trouble opening locked doors, or bypassing trapped ones. I've never seen a guard in Blackwater try the trapped door that started this thread, but I tend to think he could open it without harm. :) They can certainly open the back door to the blacksmith's shop.

Oh, okay...my bad- at some point during this thread I switched this around.

Yep, it still sounds like it is not handled correctly. I will update the dev notes to make sure it is described correctly.

Another door related bug, though this is less important and unrelated to traps, is when an enemy dies within a doorway that door then becomes un-closable. The text says that there is an object blocking the doorway when there is nothing there but the bloodstain left by the recently dead guy. This happened to me twice recently. (when using the doorway to funnel my opponents. Spartans! :D )

It's pretty ignorable but it is a bug.

Er...well, there would be a body there if the game was designed to show the corpses of your kills. In fact there would be bodies everywhere. I assume this was an aesthetic decision, and I can't argue with it. Maybe they're invisible?

I once found a chest that apparently had a trap on it but my character didn't know that. I bashed on the chest until it fell apart, then all of a sudden it started to look red as if it was trapped. But when I clicked on it the trap didn't set off, it just stayed red all the time..
