Stuff you May not Have Known... [SPOILERS]

Post by Rester.R »

Hey it's Gegorty, like maybe 2 people here remember me from somewhere... someplace... anyways, I did some tinkering with Eschalon but was disappointed to find out that I couldn't log back on nor could I get my password back :o So I guess that was because of that long period of... inactivity. Well now I got some more stuff to tells you, and I know some of this is already posted, like, way before, but I'll just delete that if I can... if not I guess it'll just rot away :(

Info: In Eschalon Book 1, your brother's name is Larrus
How: If you kill him, it will say Larrus has suffered 14 damage or something

I: The guard at Grimmhold is named Oswell
H: Same reason above

I: There are absolutely no Taurax in Grimmhold maintenance level
H: I just thought this would be useful because in a walkthrough it said the place was crawling with them

I: Gamfari, the alchemist at Bordertown, calls Blackwater "Darkwater."
H: I missed this the first time but the second time around I payed attention to what he had to say

I: If Siam, the guy that sells magical stuff in Blackwater, casts a spell, the second big bang happens
H: Try attacking him. I guess this was just a glitch. Make sure you kill him in one hit if you do :D

I: Surviving a porticullis hit is possible
H: If you actually train your endurance enough, it is possible.

I: It is possible to finish the game without even talking to Gramuk
H: If you just ignore him and pick the lock, and you manage to open it and get to the door before he kills you, congrats.

I: Erubor is immune to the effects of charm that makes the person friendly again
H: Unfortunately, I learned this the hard way :(

I: If you kill everyone in the underground repository, the porticullis behind the guards opens up to a rooms with some beds and some nifty treasure for you to take :)
H: I think i was one of the first to discover this :) Actually, probably not, but still, I was one of the first to put it up :D

I: No way can you get out of the jail cell in the underground repository
H: There is absolutely no way to do it. Unless you can use portal, which you can use to escape just about anywhere.

I: The location of the eggs are: In the attic of the pub in Elderhollow, a closet in the backyard of the goblin citadel, and in tangletree ossuary, in the porticullis room that opens when you solve the puzzle of the chests
H: I just posted this cause people are always asking where are the eggs, even though it's been answered many times.

I: If you drink the pure water that you get from the oasis in Crakamir, you will lose the quest that Oosaleph gives you, however, the next time you level up you will get 5 skill points to spend instead of 3!
H: I've tried. You can drink the water.

I: When you kill all the Taurax guarding the oasis in Crakamir, and then you try to leave, another Taurax will somehow spawn at the entrance.
H: This has happened to me both times I've gotten the pure water.

I: You can finish the game without getting the quest that tells you what the amulet is from Lillith.
H: The first time I played the game, I was scared that I might not be powerful enough to get the amulet from the casket so I trained A LOT and actually made it to Lillith's house before even getting the amulet. Since I didn't have the amulet, there were no options for the quest. So when I actually acquired the amulet, I didn't know what to do with it and just explored until I stumbled onto Blackwater, where I discovered the underground repository, and got the 3rd sealed note and the crux totally by accident!

I: There are several hidden chests that are in totally random places throughout the game. Off the top of my head, there's one that contains quite a fair bit of gold, that you get by going to the entrance of Whistling Cave and going all the way to the ledge, and then going down. There are also several chests on the Blackwater map, near the top where you would normally enter Vela, but there is a big plot of land there to the west that has a few hidden chests.
H: I guess Basilisk Games decided to give something extra to those adventurous people.

I: There is a lizard in Grimmhold West that is unreachable unless you are trained in magick or ranged weapons/bows.
H: If you go to Grimmhold East, and go to the graveyard, and keep going down the path until you reach a dead end at the rift, there is actually a red lizard there on the other side of the rift that is unreachable.

I: You can buy the adamantine great axe in stores.
H: Someone somewhere said you couldn't.

I: You can finish the Marshes of Bordan quest without even getting it, although you won't get any money for it.
H: If you clear the marsh first, then talk to Phillip (I think that's his name), then you will get some exp but no gold.

I: SOME QUESTS (I made a mistake the first time) where you are required to carry an object and then give it to someone else (For example the ceramic crucible), you can solve the quest by selling the item in the person's store (I REPEAT, SOME QUESTS)
H: I've tried this with some quests, I forgot which ones, though.

I: The higher your intelligence, the more things you'll be able to identify without lore skill or spell.
H: On my universal character (MASTER OF EVERYTHING MWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!) I found that if you have a high intelligence, then you will be able to identify items that you wouldn't normally be able to.

I: If your mercantile skill is above 25, you will be able to buy something, then sell it for even less then you bought it for.
H: I've tried this before.

I: The guards at Darkford are actually called Azure Guards.
H: If you attack them, it will say Azure Guard has suffered blah damage.

I: The gatekeepers at Blackwater and the guards inside the repository are suprisingly weak and low on hp, but give a fair amount of exp when killed.
H: I've killed them just for the heck of experience, and found that most of them died in a couple hits with my level 12 archer, but gave 250 exp.

I: There is no way you can safely get into the cabinet in Penelope's house undetected.
H: The only way to steal from her is to attack her and lure her away, or to just kill her. Because you cannot get the torch without getting her away from that spot, and she won't move by herself.

I: If you bash a barrel near the blacksmith in Aridell, you can access the backyard of the blacksmith, but there really isn't anything there.
H: Except for a few piles of wood, there's really nothing of interest there.

I: If you threaten Omar the giant leader, nothing will happen.
H: It will just say You have threatened the tribes leader or something. I've threatened him multiple times and no one has ever attacked me cause of it.

I: There is a very easy way to kill the raptor and noximanders at Shadowmirk Proving Chamber without even pulling the switch.
H: Demon oil is a very great thing in the game, don't you think?

I: There is no book that educates you on throwing weapons.
H: I've scoured all of Thaermore and some of Crakamir looking for that book, but so far, no luck.

I: You don't need to worry at all about the labrynth in Goblin Citadel.
H: For one thing, it is extremely short. For another, there are poisonous traps laid all about so all you need to do is stand there and wait with the spacebar, and the Taurax will kill themselves.

I: Hive Larvae is edible.
H: That's gross. Just gross. Who suggested that idea?

I: The ultimate boots, adamantine plate boots, can be acquired more than once in the game.
H: I've actually gotten a couple pairs of these boots throughout the game with my ranger.

I: If you kill just kill the Chancellor and not place the crux on the pedestal, and then, when the spire guards appear, you go BACK and place the crux on the pedestal, then the spireguards will be there, but the Chancellor will still be alive.
H: Weird, huh?

I: If, after you do the above, you kill the chancellor AGAIN, there will be double the amount of spire guards, although if you kill the original batch, then the game will end with destroyer.
H: It's true. Try it, I dare you.

I: Getting two crypt keys to Eversleep Crypt is possible.
H: Get one through the quest from Leurik, or pay him, and then rob him blind for making you pay for the key!

I: NPC and monsters will not go into the hidden room in Blackwater (The one that opens with the spitoon) However, if they do manage to get in their (I've somehow achieved this) they won't come out.
H: It really is strange. The wall doesn't effect them either.

I: Here's a challenge for the destroyers out there: Without the giants aid, as in, don't finish the quest for the giants, level yourself up to a high level and then take on the goblin citadel's arsenal packed courtyard by yourself.
H: I've never tried this. I'm going to right now :D

Thank you to a few people who provided some of the information on this :)

I'll be constantly adding more information to this if I can find any more.

Magnificent post, Rester.R! You even taught me a couple things! :D

One correction: you mention no way out of the jail cell in the Underground Repository. Actually, you can set a portal outside the cell and escape that way, but you can never get your gear back.

Good, interesting stuff!

One other thing I've noticed is that if you complete the quest with Omar the Giant leader, and he agrees to support you at the courtyard to the Goblin Citadel, then wipe out all the giants before hitting the citadel they will still re-spawn and help fight for you. I guess a Giant is good on his word -- even in death.

Some other thing you may already know ...

When you take the quest to kill Lillith and take her key to her underground repository chest from the shady guy at the Blackwater Tavern , you can head straight to the underground repository (if you discovered how to get there) and use her key for a worthy sword (you can sell it off course in exchange to some fine gold), then you can go back to the quest giver and give him the already useless key for nice XP and gold.

For some reason he won't have other quests for you ...at least I didn't get any till now.

He will try to kill you after a while, though. Twice.

Ouch.... but he is not that strong ... I can kill him.
I hope that stolen sword was worth it.

Damn
And there is no dialog option to start a fight "legally" now... people might notice if I'll attack him.

I can get him in a few hits, but now I'm worried about his friends.
I guess I'm strong enough to kill them all, or at least get help from the guards.

But If I wouldn't used that key there, would he give me more quests after some time ? (because he didn't give me another quest right away, when I've returned the key unused ...so I thought "what the hell...I better use it" ;) ).

He never does anything else if you give him the unused key. Just remember to use terrain to your advantage where possible. Demon Oil can help with this. :)

The first time I played, I took the entire thing on myself! I kept having to go in, shoot some, run out and into another section of the map, get health back, go back. After what seemed like hours, I killed them all. Every goblin and taurax. Then I travelled north and found out about the giants, got the last key, came back, and the giants were there... just wandering around. AND I'D ALREADY KILLED THEM!! lol

It was my fifth or sixth run through before I discovered that one.

I think there are one or two other obscure things that took me many runthroughs to find.

For example, did you know there's a barrel sort of hidden in the wooded area SE of Elderhollow (which you can actually get to through a gap in the trees behind the house you start the game in)?! I didn't, until several runthroughs later!
