I recently started playing Eschalon again - but first time as a ranger.
For experienced Rangers - by "end game" how high was your bow skill?
Ranger question?
Re: Ranger question?
If I remember correctly, it was 30 without the bracers. Note Dex. Survival was a waste because few things ever got close enough to hit me.

Re: Ranger question?
Thanks - I already knew about dex from a previous awesome set of ranger posts; but I had no feeling for the bow maximum. Since I know the one mistakes you can do is spread yourself too thin (which what I did before) I wanted to know the approximate number of necessary points in my main skill so I can plan wisely for my other skills.
Re: Ranger question?
Turtle's guys is pretty buff!
For comparison:

My guy only got to Level 16 Bows (+4 with Ranger Lord Bracers), and DEX=35, but he did have a Ring of the Assassin and a +3 Great Composite Bow - with all that, pretty much everything was 98% ToHit.

Yeah, er, I'm juggling my weapons... and, uh, a goblin skull! Yeah! That's it!!Turtle wrote:What are you--juggling?

(Seriously, sometimes I'll switch weapons back and forth like that to get a feel for how the ToHit & MaxDamage numbers change in the character stats window depending on which weapon is used and what my Level in that weapon is, etc.)

Hehe, I do the same thing. I love hot-swapping items back-and-forth to see which gives the best advantage!IJBall wrote:(Seriously, sometimes I'll switch weapons back and forth like that to get a feel for how the ToHit & MaxDamage numbers change in the character stats window depending on which weapon is used and what my Level in that weapon is, etc.)
Re: Ranger question?
Hi,
I'm also playing a ranger on my second time around in the game. What do you guys do in the beginning of the game in the dungeons since bow is the primary skill and you can't hold a torch and show bows at the same time? Do you resort to lots of potions (i.e. Cats Eye or Predator Sight) Of course, you can't make Predator Sight potions. Any advice?
Thanks!

Re: Ranger question?
This isn't what you are supposed to do, but turn up your monitor brightness helps you see in the dark on some computers. Also use the tab key to bring up the tacticle grid sometimes lights up the enemy. Otherwise you have to retreat to where a scone holds a lit torch.
Re: Ranger question?
I did a level 1 sword at the beginning for close work whle trying to retreat to lighted spaces for bow work. Yes, clunky and I nearly died several times but it worked OK. If I ever do a ranger again I will probly use the amulet of the wolf since that is fairly available early and use axes as my close weapon of choice (at least until I get to blackwater).dfa_geko wrote:Hi,
