Youtube gameplay video by the developer scrolling down from the main page. Incredibly graphical Roguelike evidenced within that video...so many little touches.
ONE MAN made this all over the past 7 years as a tribute/successor to the classic, especially on the Amiga, Moria---with very different aims and such than Angband.
Free demo of the first 3 levels, with the full version finally available for purchase for 19Euro/$24 USD
He's still actively chasing bugs and aiming to keep enhancing the game in the times to come.

Re: Mines of Morgoth finally released
I downloaded the demo. I couldn't move past the stat-roll screen, as the only on-screen button was "Roll." Also, Ctrl-Alt-Delete-ing closed the game out, and showed that it had changed my resolution to 1024 x 768, and would have to be manually reverted. All in all, a terrible first impression of a game he's trying to sell (?!) for 19 euros. I doubt it's better than the plethora of wonderful roguelikes already in existence, but I'll try to get it running so I can a give a fair impression.

Interesting. Be sure and send the developer an email on this and include your dxdiag. I've also been having problems getting the demo working, but for somewhat different reasons/conclusions than your own. He's been proactive at trying to resolve my issues, so I would imagine that to also be the case for your own.
The irony for me is that this is just about the only PC game I thought better to demo before purchase in nearly a decade, yet this one has the issues
I'm fine with the price, as I may well be one of the most tremendous fans of Roguelikes in the world, but even I can't go for a purchase yet amid this technical set of issues. The video does a pretty fair job in part of showing the potential in the game once we all get it working, likewise do I hope he gets a good video going of what all is possible in the Tower/Town segment.
I'm still optimistic based on said potential, and him being genuinely frustrated that people are having trouble getting the game to work so that they might enjoy it.

It's nice to hear he seems to actually care about his customers. It's refreshing in the days of automated messages and paid technical support.getter77 wrote:Interesting. Also, it's notable that the game does not appear as an application in the task manager. It only shows up in the process list, which is very strange.
Re: Mines of Morgoth finally released
Didn't even think to check that. yeah, definitely recommend you keep a dialog going with him on what you notice as such signs may well be what tips him off towards some solutions.

Re: Mines of Morgoth finally released
I just downloaded the demo...For I am looking for another indie game to occupy my time until Book II is released...And there is no music and the demo just doesn't attract my attention. Me is sad. =(
It is just..Demo doesn't pull me in.

Re: Mines of Morgoth finally released
Well, the outstanding majority of Roguelikes on the PC don't have any music to speak of...just one of those things. As to the demo itself, eh, it either appeals or it doesn't---all you could really do is experiment with a different build/playstyle and see what that does.
For something a bit different, with music and is also mostly a one man effort, give LambdaRogue a shot.

New upcoming version should be good, and I quite enjoy the trailers for the various versions.

Re: Mines of Morgoth finally released
I did, and I love trying games, however I couldn't really get myself to keep playing this one either...I think I am too spoiled with Eschalon. If there are any free full games downloadable or demos I can try..Please let me know of more! Maybe I should make a new thread...So we aren't off topic.
At the moment I am jobless and only have around $100 left in my debit account sooo...Till I hear back from some jobs I can't spend any on games. =/
