New here :)

Post by Hudson »

Hello all,

Names Hudson and I am a avid gamer and blog writer as well as EQ2 player but sometimes I like to sit back on my laptop and relax and play a good indie published RPG like this one and Avernum 5.

This is a great old school RPG for those that grew up on Baldur's Gate and the like. It is good to see this type of product still being made!

I don't know, Eschalon has certainly managed to keep me from working on my own game, doing my laundry, and getting a new tire to replace the one that's about to disintegrate. :P It's sad though, I spent about $500 on PS3 games, and haven't put half as much time into that system as into Eschalon. I've had my PS3 since February. I've had Eschalon for 2 weeks, and worked OT both weeks.

I am new here too. I am loving this game so far!! I had the demo, and bought it after playing it for 20 minutes.. That is saying something! I am 30 and have been playing computer rpgs since the 1980's back when there was only 4 colors on the screen (not wireframe..I'm not that old) , and remember the greats like ultima 1-8,ultima underworld. might and magic 1-8, Wizardry , dungeon master ,eye of the beholder and my favorite old school game series Pools 4-part epic Goldbox D and D... those were the days..

Then the 2nd golden age of rpgs came with Baldur's gate, diablo2, fallout2, icewindale, etc.. The Reason I am bringing these games up is that there really has been nothing like these games since the early 2000's... It happened when the stupid xbox came out and developers either migrated over to that stupid console or just flat out died. (i really believe if it had stayed Sony and Nintendo, Sega the PC marketplace would be flooded with more games like it used to be. It really is a shame.) Almost none of the devs exist for those games and if they do they have sold out. It really was a rare shock to stumble upon this game mentioned in a forum thread on gamespot.com of all places. The game merges the more modren looks and style of games in the 98-2003 period with the old school games from the 88-1993 period. And that is a great thing indeed!

It is my hope that this company expands and more people buy this so more of these are released. And who know if they are successful, maybe other indie or non-indie pc devs will take note and make more oldschool influenced rpgs... probably not, but I can wish for a 3rd rpg renaissance, can't I?

I am only in the beginning of this game and i don't know how long it is. I hope Book 2 has been in development for a while and that i can experience it near when I finish this game. The thought of them releasing a construction kit/modding tools or some sort of source code would be great, as i dabble in programming i would love to fiddle with this engine, but agian i doubt that will happen anytime soon. All I know is that this game was worth the cash..and i will support any other rpgs this developer makes.

Welcome Midnightshade! I, too, played the long ago games. Been a rpg'er since 1979 even before we got a computer (C64) Mid 1980's?? (been so long I've forgotten! :D )

I love this game. It's replayablity is what I like. You can try all kinds of things as a character and still find enjoyment. The game itself isn't that long, but that's okay. Everyone here is getting very excited and impatient for Book: II to come out later this year. More fun then a barrel of goblins in a hornet cave.
