Din's Curse

Post by BasiliskWrangler »

Ah, our indie developer friends at Soldak are prepping their 3rd game: Din's Curse! No screenshots yet, but the description sounds pretty cool.

Thanks! This does sound interesting. I'll have to try and remember to check on it once in a while.

He's a workaholic don't know how he does it - making a game similar to FATE is gonna be a big challenge and I hope he pulls it off

I briefly took a look-see at the site...even bookmarked it for when I have more time to take it all in. At first glance, I see the games are listed as Action/RPGs. No...no complaints...just rambling on as usual. Thanks for listing it here.

Tis great looking stuff and as this is supposed to be their "hardcore dungeon crawl" foray, I'm expecting great things.

Then the trick becomes when will I get money/find work again so as to afford it sometime after release. :(

Just popped into their forum section and found these two questions with answer. Thought you'd be interested.
Any idea, yet, whether it will run on a Power Mac with OS X 10.3.9 (your other games do!)?

Can't wait! I'm willing to help with alpha/beta if you are accepting applications.

Technically the plan is late Q4 right now.

I don't think we have changed anything that prevents the game from running on OS X 10.3.9.

I don't even know what we are doing for beta yet.

Sounds like a Diablo clone.

Myeh. I got all action-RPGed out after playing Titan Quest obsessively. Plus, neither of their earlier efforts really stand out to me. Depths of Peril is fairly cool, I suppose, but it was incredibly generic-feeling. And Kivi's Underworld was more like an action game than an RPG.

Now available and likely chock full of awesome for $19.99 pre-order/beta access goodness. Some of the best menu/tooltip work I've ever seen in terms of the Options menu and such at least.

I go hardcore into the beta doings tomorrow morning.

So, has anyone around here been playing the [EDIT:]Beta of Din's Curse?

From reading Soldak's forums on Din's Curse and the [EDIT:]Beta, it sounds like it's closer in style to Depths of Peril than Kivi's Underworld. And, from my standpoint, I'm a little nervous about that - I was able to play Kivi no problem and liked it (though I will admit that I still haven't replayed it yet...); but I never got the hang of Depths of Peril and so didn't like it.

So, anyone playing Din's Curse's [EDIT:]Beta wanna share their thoughts with the Eschalon crew?...

[EDIT: My bad - I meant to say Beta in this, but I kept saying "demo" in the original version by mistake!]

There is a demo out? I can't find a link for it on their site.

I am very anxious to play it though. Post a link if it is a legitimate version.

I just checked the forums. They said if you pre-order it now, you'll be able to get the beta game. The 'real' game will come out in about a month. No demo's yet, from what I read.
Pre-order for either Mac or PC

Yes, my bad - I meant to say "Beta", not demo - I've fixed my original so no one else will get confused.

My question remains, though - has anyone around here been playing the Beta of Din's Curse? Is the game closer to Depth of Peril in style? Etc.

Well I pre-ordered and have been playing the Beta for last couple days on and off and I find it a o.k game.
Being a Fan and supporter of Soldak (having DOP and Kivi already) I'm a little disappointed in the game as it is feels like I'm playing the 1st 2 games all over again but in a different setting.

I've been plugging away at it when stuff hasn't came up that's had me distracted or elsewhere---it is shaping up. The first meaty'ish patch came out last night for the beta crew, which is a good sign. Pretty much an action Roguelike feel, which makes sense considering all the lead up journals and such. I've not played their prior 2 games despite owning Depths of Peril, so the lot of it is fairly fresh to me.

So long as the patches continue to flow at a brisk and effective pace mirrored by the beta activity, I reckon this will turn out to be quite a nice and substantial game.

I was surfing Softpedia and saw they had Din's Curse beta version to be downloaded. I double checked the company site but no download from there that I could find unless you preordered as said above. Not sure if this was legal or not. But, downloaded it anyway a few minutes ago to check it over.

This was Mac version. Don't know if they have PC version since I forgot to look (on Softpedia)
Anyway, here's the address for the download Mac version: http://mac.softpedia.com/get/Games/Din-s-Curse.shtml
