I'm the kind of player who always forget to save (lost my first character that way).
Would an autosave be possible ?
Autosave on arriving on new map
Re: Autosave on arriving on new map
Rule 1 of RPGs is to always save often.
You can quicksave by pressing F2. I do it all of the time, including after every battle and whenever I arrive on a new map.

I do the same and also when finding new barrels, chests and out of the way houses that might have bad guys inside.Arkos wrote:Rule 1 of RPGs is to always save often.

Re: Autosave on arriving on new map
I have played several games where an autosave was standard whenever you entered a new "map" (be it cellar, or just a new section of map). I was a bit surprised that E1 didn't have that. I just assumed E2 would. Maybe we'll get it on E3?

Re: Autosave on arriving on new map
it IS pretty standard these days.
Re: Autosave on arriving on new map
Yes...we talked about it and due to potential problems with constant rewriting the same folder it is possible for the content to get corrupted I believe...and by the time we had that conversation it would have been hard to implement a fix with the engine involved...silverkitty wrote:it IS pretty standard these days.
definately something to look at in a future version...
Re: Autosave on arriving on new map
I'm old school, so I should know to save often.... I had Microsoft Word fail way too many times back in the day and learned this lesson the hard way! As for EB2, I like that BW decided not to hold your hand throughout the entire game. Sure, I've lost hours due to having to re-play the same scenario after getting killed and then remembering I hadn't saved in a while. That's part of the charm of the game, in my opinion.

That makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.Rune_74 wrote:Yes...we talked about it and due to potential problems with constant rewriting the same folder it is possible for the content to get corrupted I believe...and by the time we had that conversation it would have been hard to implement a fix with the engine involved...
The player can spam the F2 button, and that works fine, but having a subroutine to automatically call up the same function causes "corrupted content"?
That's silly.

Re: Autosave on arriving on new map
It hit F2 far, far, FAR more often than I change maps. If writing over the same folder were going to crash the game, I'd've done it from F2s.
Incidentally: autosave isn't necessarily coddling. it's also known as a "modern feature". If this weren't a game, I'd say it falls under "computers are here to make our lives easier, not vice versa" which is my first rule of UI design.

Well, I know about saving often, but I get easily caught up in Eschalon Book.
So after an hour of play, well, I die, and realize I did not save my game even once.
Is it my fault BasiliskGames made such an awesome game so that I forget to save ?
