I'm the kind of player who always forget to save (lost my first character that way).

Would an autosave be possible ?

Rule 1 of RPGs is to always save often.

You can quicksave by pressing F2. I do it all of the time, including after every battle and whenever I arrive on a new map.

I do the same and also when finding new barrels, chests and out of the way houses that might have bad guys inside.

I have played several games where an autosave was standard whenever you entered a new "map" (be it cellar, or just a new section of map). I was a bit surprised that E1 didn't have that. I just assumed E2 would. Maybe we'll get it on E3?

Yes...we talked about it and due to potential problems with constant rewriting the same folder it is possible for the content to get corrupted I believe...and by the time we had that conversation it would have been hard to implement a fix with the engine involved...

definately something to look at in a future version...

I'm old school, so I should know to save often.... I had Microsoft Word fail way too many times back in the day and learned this lesson the hard way! As for EB2, I like that BW decided not to hold your hand throughout the entire game. Sure, I've lost hours due to having to re-play the same scenario after getting killed and then remembering I hadn't saved in a while. That's part of the charm of the game, in my opinion.

That makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

The player can spam the F2 button, and that works fine, but having a subroutine to automatically call up the same function causes "corrupted content"?

That's silly.

It hit F2 far, far, FAR more often than I change maps. If writing over the same folder were going to crash the game, I'd've done it from F2s.

Incidentally: autosave isn't necessarily coddling. it's also known as a "modern feature". If this weren't a game, I'd say it falls under "computers are here to make our lives easier, not vice versa" which is my first rule of UI design.

Well, I know about saving often, but I get easily caught up in Eschalon Book.

So after an hour of play, well, I die, and realize I did not save my game even once.

Is it my fault BasiliskGames made such an awesome game so that I forget to save ?
